Cascade/Clorox 2 Stain Remover
From the Complete Tightwad Gazette pg 274

This really works!! It removed food & food type grease stains from our shirts. They also look brighter. I substituted Purex brand powdered all-fabric bleach for the Clorox. You may be able to use a cheaper dishwasher powder. I will try that later. I also cut the recipe in half to use in my Wonder Washer (hnd cranked non-electric clothes washer). Apparently you can save the used solution, reheat it and reuse.

Dissolve 1 cup Cascade Automatic Dishwasher powder and 1 cup powdered Clorox 2 in 5 gallons of the hottest water to come out of your faucet. Soak several articles of clothing overnight. Launder as usual in the morning. Book claims it will remove 90% of stains that do not come out with normal laundering and is good for removing food stains. Do not use on delicate fabrics or items that are not colour-fast.

I have found that it will turn blood stains a yellowish colour with one use. Hopefully with a second soaking, it will completely remove those stains.

As used in my Wonder Washer:
Dissolve 1/2 cup each dishwasher detergent and all-fabric bleach with 2 gallons hot tap water. Add up to 4 lbs stained clothes. Attach lid and seal.. Crank a few times to mix solution with clothes (I cranked for 2 minutes). let stand overnight. Drain and launder as usual.

Been a fan of Clorox 2 for years. Will keep Cascade trick in mind.
