LED Bulb Replacements

DW and I perfer local dry camping and I'm wanting to convert the incandesent lights to LED. I have been able to find the 1076 type bulbs on line for about $10 apeice for the one dinning table light and the info is pretty well straight forth. Where the problem comes in is with the 921 wedge bulbs in the cabin dome lights. I've got seven fixtures with two of the 921 bulbs in each unit. It was immediate information overload with prices ranging all over the place. Has anybody done this conversion and if so will you pass on the information.

The difference in price for Leds is mostly driven by the light output (lumens) and the quality of the little circuit board that drives the leds themselves. Better quality led bulbs maintain a steady level of brightness regardless of voltage changes or temperature. I like the Revolution brand bulbs, but they aren't the least expensive, Ming is another excellent brand. I get most of my Leds from RVLEDBulbs.com - RV LED Bulbs, RV LED Lights and Light Accessories and they have a selection of #921 wedge base bulbs.

Wink LED bulbs in

hello....
Just replaced 921 bulbs w led from Amazon....
1 set (2) was 15led unit, 1 set was 5led unit......both are much dimmer than reg 921, the 5led unit was more 'blueish' color....
We're trying to cut down the watts for dry camping also....
Tried all on last night, and was acceptable, but Not Bright like before....
Also used new Led 'bulbs' in the standard dual bulb fixtures, with only 1;Led in 1st side on and reg bulb in second/both bulbs on side....
This way, 1st switch Led only (dry camp), and both on when plugged into 120v shore power and want more light....
Also going to leave the stock double flourescents alone for now, use for brighter prep work and they appear to draw @ 3 amps...never on for more than 1 hr at most in regular usage.
The Led seems to be a little trial/error affair....
Oh, I bought 2 pk red Led at auto supply, bayonet base, and they are BRIGHT! Only uni-directional, but work Great in lav hallway ceiling fixture as 'driving night light'....
Also, going to put few of these in garages for low power night lighting....the red is easy on the eyes in the dark.....fewer bugs too
Enjoy, this is all a work in progress...LoL

LEDs are GREAT, especially if you are boondocking. I have 1076 style bulbs in my wall sconces, they were a pain to source. You have to make sure the base has the little pins at the same heights as your existing bulbs. Tried a few before i got a good fit both electrically and physically.

Still went with WARM WHITE, much more pleasing than the other colors.

I have some photos on my blog at:

WanderMan: And The Lord Said..."Let There Be Low Power Light"

There's also some pictures of the light strips I bought to add to the fluorescent fixtures.

We are replacing all but the florescent bulbs with LEDs this month (FOUR different bulb types, including halogen); discovered Mike Taylor (of Montana Owner's Club) via SKP forum, learned he can get direct-from-factory replacements that are designed for 12v systems (built-in current limiting resistors, will accept 10-15v, DC power source).

We love going off-the-grid, the LED's are way-cooler temperature, and 1/10th the power consumption; we have gone for 14-days in the desert without using the generator, except to charge up the truck's batteries. Our success was aided by the small handful of LEDs I'd already installed in the high-usage fixtures (from superbrightleds.com).

Will post more, when we get some mileage with these new replacements.

Do a search on Ebay, you will find what you need. You can buy directly from China with a big savings. I did mine 2 years ago and am very happy with them. You need to watch the color, I bought some and they were too white. Nice thing about ordering from China, you can screw up and not be out a ton of money. The LED's you buy at Amazon and elsewhere, mostly come from China. I think I paid around a $1.50 each. Might be a little more now.
