I read in one of the forums about a pass available to those over 62. It cost $10 and got you a 50% discount at state parks BLM land and some others. Can anyone tell me how to get one of these? Thanks

We got our Golden Age Passport at a USFS ranger station. It's good at all National Parks and lots of other places. Not sure about state parks.

The Golden Age Passport can be purchased at any National Park, Corps of Engineers Campground, National Monuments that charge admission etc. It not only allows you half price camping at National government and CoE campgrounds, but gives you free admission to most National Parks. It is good for life and costs only $10.00. You must show proof of age when you purchase (drivers lic.) I don't think is is good for State parks though, but some may honor it. Best deal going!

My wife has the Golden Access card. It is good in all Federal campgrounds just as the Golden Age Pasport card is. These cards are good at any fee site that is run by the Federal Gov (the good ol' USA). It is basically 1/2 off the normal fee. Some conditions now and then apply. But overall a great bargain.
State and County parks do not accept these as far as I know. I have looked for states offering discount park passes for disabled or senior citizens. What I have found is that these discount passes are available if you are a resident of that state. There may be other discounts available to out of staters but this is not commom for camping. You can purchase an annual entrance discount card in some states but this does not include camping in their state parks. The State offering the best deals I have seen for seniors or disabled is Washington State. But again you must be a resident of Washington State.

If you have a Golden Age card, you can get 1/2 price at the Louisiana State Parks. They are really nice. In the off-season (Jan, Feb and Mar., I think) every third day is free. That was a couple of years ago,but it is probably the same still. $12 was the normal rate with hookups, and it averaged out $4 a day. Beautiful parks, too.

That's very interesting! Does anybody else have any experience in using the Golden Age/Golden Access cards in state parks? It would be nice to generate a list of states honoring these cards.

We depend on the 1/2 off for a lot of our camping so we can save up for a "swanky" place now and then.

Our Golden Age Passport gives us 50% off camping fees at all USFS campgrounds anytime there is space available and the campground is open. If you use a service for reservations you pay the full service price, but only 50% of the site fee.

It's a good deal!

Only a few states accept the Golden Age card as proof of "senior" status, but many states have senior discounts, beginning at various ages between 55 and 65. The "senior" age may be different for non-residents and residents too. Ask when you check in and have your driver license handy for proof.

There are some states that do accept the Golden Age Passport. I can't say for sure which ones they are but I have received the discount before at two or three states.

So many campgrounds, so many places, I'm sorry I forgot.

Florida has a 50% discount for seniors. I'm not sure if it is only for residents or not.

At Federal campgrounds the discount is good for camping fees only. Not for electric connections, prime sites, etc. Also in many National Parks, such as Yellowstone where they have concessionaires you do not get the discount from the concessionaire but you do with the campgrounds run by the Park.

And don't lose your pass. It is good for life but is not replacable.

Hi All,

A note to those that are disabled is that the National Parks offer a FREE Golden Access Passport which is good for free access to the parks as well as a 50% discount on use fee's such as camping and cave tours. To get the pass all I needed to do was show proof of lifetime disability.

The Golden Age Passport does NOT work at Texas State Parks - they do offer their own senior pass, however, as well as the regular pass. There is currently "free fishing" in the state parks until August (no state fishing license required within the park fishing from the bank or piers)
