Someone was shooting their AR-15 into the air. That could have been many miles away. Not nice, but nothing to fret over. It does illustrate why you should not shoot into the air, though. That round was just powered by gravity when it hit.
Lots of guns shoot the .223 or 5.56 besides an AR. Even the Ruger Ranch Rifle takes either. And no they are NOT the same round.
