Gary,

I didn't know about the Fanning Springs community. I requested detailed info through their website. However, when I called the office number I found that it was disconnected!

Thanks to all for your suggestions. We are now investigating several communities including:

Silver Oaks - Fanning Springs, FL
The Great Outdoors - Titusville, FL
Lake Ashton - Lake Wales, FL
St. Johns River Club - Satsuma, FL
Mt. Olive Shores - Polk County, FL
Mt. Olive Shores North - Polk County, FL
Sunrise Bluffs - Belen, NM
Retama Village - Mission, TX

If anyone knows of other RV port or garage home communities, please let me know.

Hello, does anyone know a 55+ community that is RV friendly in Georgia or Alabama. A community that will at least let me park my RV next to my home or have on site parking? Thanks, Frank

Hi Frank,
For Alabama try here
or here.

For Georgia try here. This site requires a lot of clicks, but you can get there once you understand how it works.

These sites may not be exactly what your looking for, but they provide places to call and start your search.

Taxes in Florida are recalculated right after the sale and the purchase becomes the appraised value. If the seller had lived there as a primary residence (taxes capped at 3%/year) then taxes can go up by a very large factor. you can get the tax mileage from the county office and actually calculate the news taxes. Many people have gotten huge surprises by not doing this.

In the past few years, have any new RV port communities been developed? I love the concept, and Retama has a great selection of floorplans, but it is not a good location for us. Wondering if maybe other planned communities have become RV friendly since this discussion first came up. Any ideas?

We contemplated TGO, but it's a huge place. We've decided to buy a piece of property and have a port home built. Land if FL. is pretty cheap.

How much trouble was this to do? I have read before that it is very hard to do. I would love to have an acre or two and have plenty of room for a turn-around for our motorhome with a garage for it.

Ramets, where are you building, what land did you find, etc? Florida is on the top of our list, but none of the RV port communities are quite right for us. Will probably build also. Fun fun fun.

Nothing finalized as yet. We're looking primarily below the Rt. 4 corridor. Maybe near Frostproof, Avon, or Sebring areas. After talking with a couple realtors, it doesn't seem to big of a problem to buy land instead of being crammed into a development. Which isn't our style at all.

Did you find an RV Port design and plans or are you doing your own?

Be sure to check out zoning on minimum size and other restrictions. Officials can be real jerks sometimes.
