We're fulltimers who are just beginning to look at establishing a home base once again. Falling home prices have gotten our attention.

Does anyone know of any RV port home communities? We want to consider opportunities anywhere in the US - north, south east and west.

We are currently looking at The Great Outdoors in Titusville, FL and Rotama Village in Mission, TX.

Lew, take a look at The Gardens RV Village in Crossville, Tennessee. I thought they are quite nice. Too close for DW when we sell out here. She wants some roooom!

Thanks, Jim. We know about The Gardens. I forgot to mention it.

This past Spring was our first in East TN. I've never been affected by springtime allergies until arriving here. I don't want to go through that again. So, we've ruled out east TN.

Lew,

You mentioned The Great Outdoors in Titusville as a possible location. TGO is our home base and we absolutely love it. The people, amenities and area are great. We had looked at other places but always came back to TGO because of all it offered.

Yes, TGO looks like a great place. We will look at their Chalets with RV ports when we return to FL in November.

However, I am concerned that the pricing is too high. There has been too much real estate inflation in Florida in my opinion. While South Florida is experiencing a correction, I see nothing to indicate much of a correction affecting TGO. At least, not enough of a downward move for me.

I agree with you that the Florida market has been upside down in the last few years, however it is in a major state of correction and it is truly a buyers market now. There are some great deals there now.

We live in a community like that about 30 miles south of Albuquerque, NM. Not all the homes have RV ports but the ones at the top of the hill (like ours do).

It's a gated community of manufactured homes. The ones with the RV ports have nice large lots. We love it here.

We have great weather here year round, no major natural disasters, access to cultural activities, small town with no major traffic (except when you go to Albuquerque).

We even have our own Good Sam's chapter here

check it out

Lew, We have stayed at Great Outdoors also and really like the area. Have you checked out the taxes on the various sites there? I agree the prices seem high, so I wonder about the tax on thses properties. I have not found a better developed project that is not in south Fl..

Nedra,

Do you have a link to the home manufacturer. Our experience to date with "manufactured" homes is that they appear and "feel" like double-wide mobile homes.

I clicked on your link to the community and the homes do NOT look like "manufactured" homes as I know them.

I wish the site had a link or more info on the home building process.

Lew, these homes are made by Karsten. We actually toured the factory and watched them make the homes. Impressive.

Our home is 1736 square feet and is on a permanent foundation. I actually had a page on our website showing the entire process from the time they delivered the house (in 2 sections) until the time it was move in ready. It was amazing. I also had photos from the factory tour but finally took the page off.

You are still much better off taking the factory tour and watching it happen first hand. You should plan a trip over here and meet with JoAnn (the sales manager) and then arrange a tour of the factory which is in Albuqerque...just up the road.

Right now there are 2 sites left with RV ports. Won't be any more until they begin Phase 4 and they won't start that until they sell a few more houses in Phase 3...our phase.

If you have questions, email me at nedrasmail@aol.com

Lew have you thought about building an RV chalet yourself?
Years ago there was a website with RV port(chalet) plans, but I can't find it tonight.

Ray, IN,

No I haven't considered building my own chalet. Thanks for the idea but, we want to be in a secure RV community. To do that one must agree to buy or build from a supplied range of designs.

Try looking at Lake Ashton in Lake Wales Florida. It's a retirement community that has sections of RV port homes.

Mount Olive Shores is another community like TGO

There is a new one west of your old stomping grounds in Gainesville too. Look at RVs at Silver Oaks.

And HERE is a list of some others.
