Looking for Feedback

Last year I bought a house in Florida and my daughter is living there until we sell and move down. We also bought a 2003 Fleetwood Southwind so we can go back and forth and take our dogs. The home has an RV hookup so all had been good.

The rear room in the RV is the bedroom (slide out) that you can barely get in when it's closed. Also with all of the travel we've been using the queen size Intex air beds, which are very comfortable. This morning it dawned on me...why don't I remove the bed. That way I can use the area for storage when we travel. When it's parked there I can use it as an office or other room. When I'm camping, I can inflate the air bed.

After searching for others that have done this I found nothing. Which to me indicates I've missed something. What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
Brian

What about the base of the bed? Yes I can see your point on the air mattress but doesn't that sit on a frame of some kind.

The base can be removed. There's a 3 inch "lip" that runs between the cabinets, but I can live with that.

It's an air bed. Normal bed height. Really quite nice, pump is part of the bed

Isn't the fresh water tank there? Also isn't part of the rear furnace there also? You could open up the room a bit but I believe the last 3 feet or so would have to be boxed in?

Hi Brian! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Sounds like it might work. Noticed that you are kinda new on IRV2 and wanted to say hello! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I don't believe so. I'll have to look closer; but under the bed is storage. I'll move things around so I can see, but wondering why others haven't considered this. Sounds like many RV's have critical components under the bed.

The air mattress apparently meets your sleeping comfort needs, so if you value the extra storage space more than the convenience of a fixed bed, go for it. Nobody has to like it except you. Well, until you want to sell the coach in the future...

If the existing bed in in the slide then the slide motor and wiring is likely in a portion on the beds base. Possibly could be other components such as a fresh water tank or a furnace under there as well. If you don't have these issues then you should be good remove the bed platform but I would want to be able to replace it to its original configuration when you get ready to sell it.

Go for it.

We removed a recliner chair from our coach and kept it. When I sell the coach I'll put it back in.
