Macerator Questions

We have an Itasca 35F with the small forward 1/2 bath and I'm not just real impressed at how long it takes to drain the front black tank. I've seen fish take pump a faster and better flow. Anyone have an idea a stronger, higher rate of flow heavy duty pump that would made this chore less time consuming and efficient.

My macerator pump on our 15 vista 35F seems to "pump" or push the stuff thru at a pretty good rate, as long as the pump button is pushed. When it isn't pushed, absolutely nothing comes thru.
Mine takes several minutes with a full tank.
Everything is relative. How long is long?
Could the hose be blocked with "debris"? The hose diameter is only about an inch or 2 in diameter.
Is the motor putting out the right amperage/power?

Just some thoughts. good luck. dave

Macerator pumps have rubber impellers which wear. To replace, flush the whole system with soap and water, pull the macerator pump out, order a new impeller and put it in. I have done this twice and the long pump out times go away. It is not a fun job. Some people just replace the whole pump. Slowtrot

Macerator pumps can do 5=7 gallons per minute

3" stinky slinky can dump 30-40 in less tim

Our system does take longer to dump the tanks, but when you are comparing a 1" hose to a 3" hose, the 3" wins every time. However, I am more satisfied with the slower system and 'less' mess.

Until you have to replace or unclog the impeller.

As always, thanks to all for the input. Looks like it could be anything from my lack of patience to needing to learn how to measure amp draw. Living in an RV park currently and don't have the facilities to do repair so will have to limit use until I can get where I can pull and check the pump.

Why not use your 3" hose?
I only use my Macerator if needing to pump uphill or over 25' away.

Would if I could. The I/W 35F models have a smaller second black tank located on the passenger side of the coach and it is connected to the dump manifold at the drivers rear side via a macerator through a one inch line. This arrangement is one of the very few down sides to the 35F. The more I think about it the more I'm inclined to think I may have a partial clog at the impeller.

My problems with the maceator is usually hair.No matter how carefull I am hair goes down the drain. When it gets to the pump it wraps around the shaft and binds the pump.I disassemble the pump and remove the hair and usually have to make a new gasket to reassemble it.Just remember plumbers don't bite their nails.

Macerators can indeed clog up and slow down but even clean and new you will not get 10 gallons per minute.. Perhaps five, or Six, but not 10

3" hose will dump 40 gallons is way less than a minute.
