Magnadyne replacement stereo in an RV

Hey guys, I’ve been searching the web looking for the best replacement for the magnadyne dash mounted stereo in my 07 itasca sun cruiser. There is a lot of stereos on the market that will work but I really didn’t want to cut into the wiring harness and also have a gap in my dash with a poor fit.
Well, I’m the type of person who will exhaust every possible bit of information before I make a choice and that would appear to be the case here.
I’ve actually gone back to the manufacturer (magnadyne Corp) and searching I found that they still design stereos for motor homes.
They have them in double din sizes, with Bluetooth and WiFi. CD players, DVD players. Rear cameras, touch screens. They also offer one with navigation.
Seems that they have them with just about everything.
Magnadyne will also put on a custom plug for ease of installation and they do that for free.
I’m calling them today to order my new stereo and I’ll post some photos and a review after it’s been installed and I’ve played with it some.

Hi Ken & Ola! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

It's hard to say about the performance since they don't give frequency response or distortion figures. Hope it works out great for you!

Keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I would go with a known brand name. They have adapters for the wiring harness so it should be plug and play.

I don't believe a double din will fit as I believe your original unit is probably a 1 1/2 din as in our journey. I purchased the adapter kit from magadyne for a one din unit to go into a 1 1/2 din space and then got a fully featured single din stereo from crutchfield. There is one company Retrotunes that make a 1 1/2 din unit but it lacks most modern features like bluetooth.

Ken and Ola-

Your original stereo is a 1.5-DIN. A double-DIN radio might require cutting the dashboard.

The easiest replacement is a single-DIN, using the adapter Magnadyne sells to cover the hole left by the "missing" 0.5-DIN.

I have not heard that Magnadyne offers custom harnesses. That would be a useful service, one that would incline me towards their singe-DIN product if I was not sure of making my own compatible harness/connector.

I usually make my own harnesses and connectors. Winnebago provides wiring diagrams for your coach here. The radio connector wiring is part of the "Body, 12 Volt Wiring Diagram," here (PDF page 4, drawing sheet 2, zone A-11 appears to show a connector behind the radio). You would need to confirm the pin signals and locations, and buy the parts to match the connector on the chassis radio wiring harness.

I have bought from Crutchfield and found their support excellent. They will likely not be able to provide you with a harness that matches your coach's existing connector.

I have to agree with the others, I replaced my 1.5 din with a single din Sony that was packed with features that came handy in my Class A, handsfree phone, an android app that can control the stereo with your phone, which was pretty handy while streaming Pandora while parked at the campground.
I ordered the Magnadyne adapter and made my own harness.

I replaced my Magnadyne with another Magnadyne. Call Magnadyne, they have replacement radios and all adapters. My installation was very simple, they supplied all brackets and wiring harness. I took a picture of my wiring and they fabricated a new harness.

Very happy with Magnadyne. Replaced my outside stereo with their latest upgrade. Took a picture of the wiring and the new unit came plug and play.

Call Crutchfield (Crutchfield.com). They have fantastic customer service (and low product prices) and will spend the time with you to get the best match for your needs. They are the best source to start with if you don't know what to do.

1 1/2 din vs double din.

I spoke to a magnadyne rep then I went and measured twice and low and behold it will fit with a smigen to spare. Complete plug and play. We shall see when it shows up.

I spoke to crutchfield first thinking they are the kings of audio and they couldn’t help me. I was somewhat shocked because they always have been spot on in the past

I ordered the magnadyne m2 with the 12 pin molex plug. We will see how it goes when it arrives in 4 or 5 days.

Hi. When I spoke to the rep at magnadyne he told that the connector would be on the radio when it ships. 12 pin molex is what he stated and I pulled my existing radio and sure enough it’s a 12 pin. He answered all my questions without hesitation and was spot on with his answers.
He even told me what I already had in the camper with a little information I provided. Very nice and easy to deal with.
They also sell replacement speakers, tv antennas and WiFi boosters.

Finally replaced the old stereo

Well, I finally replaced the stereo. The plug worked perfectly as promised. Had to make a few cuts in the dash to accommodate the double din vs the din and a half. Some of the steel bracing needed to be cut out for the stereo to slide all the way back into bracket. All in all it was a very easy install and everything works great. I didn’t hook up the ground to the brake because I’m not planning on using the DVD player but if I decide to later it will be easy to do.
