Main Awning Bows

I am thinking of getting a set of Awning bows for my awning. Are they any good? How many do you use, one place shows that you need 5 for a 16 foot, but others indicate that you only need 4.
Do they stretch the awning, and if so can you put the awning up for a few days with out using the bows, or do you have to use them all the time.
I have found a set of 5 that has a bracket on the end that does not require that you drill a hole in the roller.
I have seen them used when setting up like a snowbird or for 3 or 4 months.

Good question....

We have never used them and not really sure if they are needed.

I thought they were used primarily to shed water, but we always give a slight tilt to ours to do that anyway.

It will be interesting to hear from those that have or now use them and how well they are liked.
