We just got back from an RV show in Abbotsford

. We have never really figured this one out and after asking some of the dealer and manufacter reps they really have no idea either. What in the world is meant when you read a manufacturer's spec sheet, they list all the "standard" things on a unit, then they list available "options", and here's the kicker they list the "mandatory options"

This really couldn't be an option if it's "mandatory" could it?

Typically a "mandatory option" is mandatory in concert with another option. For example, if you want the tow package on some light trucks, you must also order the automatic transmission. You can buy the truck with a stick shift, but if you want the tow package, the auto trans is a 'mandatory option'. You could, however, order the automatic transmission without a tow package, but you don't have to order either.

One common usage, if you want two A/C's or higher capacity A/C's, 50 A power supply is required.

I agree Paul, it is an oxymoron, marketing scheme, and insult. All those things just to satisfy the board of directors, who seem the have the impression we consumers don't know better.

My wife is in charge of all mandatory options and it works out well.

When we bought a new coach in 2002, we discovered that "Low Profile A/C" was a mandatory option at an extra cost of $120 for two. It turned out there was no other a/c, whether standard or optional. The standard equipment list just said two 15k btu air conditioners and did not say high, low or anything else about them. And there was no optional a/c listed anywhere. But when they entered our order into National RV's order entry system, it said this was a mandatory option. It was simply an extra $120 added to the base price.

on a fiver we had once the convec/microwave was a mandatory option if you choose the gas stove/oven delete
