Even though I've owned several Sleep Number beds over the years, I really don't like them either and we replaced the one which came in our coach with a regular Beauty Rest pillow top which was made to be on a platform bed instead of being supported by a box spring.

It's the same mattress we have at home, only queen instead of Ca King.

Best suggestion is to go to several stores, lay down on just about every mattress in the way that you normally sleep and lay there for at least 5 minutes if not for 15 minutes. For Thom and I we tried out all kinds and realized that we just do not like and our bodies cannot stand sleep numbers or foam mattresses or toppers. We ended up with a firm euro pillow top.

X3 on don't like the sleep number bed. We had never tried one but one came in our "new" coach. Threw it out first thing. We got a Stearns and Foster pillow top at a furniture store clearance sale. We love it.

Shop anywhere you can. We stumbled on a deal for a beauty rest Queen mattress at H.H. Gregg. The DGFs brother told us about it when he got a new TV and home theater, they were trying to push it on him. We went the next day and after seeing the packaging, I didn't hesitate. The matress had been in the store awhile and the manager marked it down to $25 because the plastic wrapper was tore on one side and a 4 inch mark got on the side of the mattress. Still fully sealed from the factory except the 4 inch tear! When I got it home, I took a damp rag and cleaned the dust off the side and you wouldn't find the mark unless you know it is there! The original tag was still on the sealed wrapping and we were happy to get it for less than 10% of original cost! Manager said he couldn't sell it as new with the mark, and noone wanted it for months! It sleeps so good! The DGF sleeps better in the camper than at home!

We also inherited a sleep number when we bought the new to us coach. I am getting used to it but the DW is not. We have been looking at others but an RV king is hard to find in the local stores. Still trying to figure out what to do.

We used a foam/memory foam topper on our last MH. The new-to-us MH we just bought came with a pillow top queen, and may be the best yet. I've heard sleep numbers can be a problem if you change altitudes without deflating.

As others have mentioned, take measurements and if it's a "real" king (76 X 80) you shouldn't have any trouble finding one you like. Be careful of the thickness ... too thick/thin and you may have a mismatch to the height of your nightstands (not a show stopper but a little annoying)..

Ikea mattress

We're using our mattress we bought at Ikea. Very comfortable & we didn't have to take out a loan to buy it.

Got rid of the sleep number and got a $500.00 memory foam mattress from Costco. We sleep like babies now.

Hi Greg,

More than likely, you have an RV King 72x80 size or an RV King Short 72x75 size. I haven't run into many RV's which take a standard 76x80 eastern king.

For the most accurate measurement of what you need, I'd recommend taking the dimensions of the plywood surface rather than the mattress. I'd also note how tall the existing mattress is. You'll want at a minimum 36" of space between the top of your new mattress and the ceiling otherwise you could be bumping your head a lot.

Boy, I wish mattresses weren't such a hard thing to pick out. Our treck for a new one starts next week. The DW really wants to look into the SleepNumber but me not so much. I think you pretty much know who will win out though. Wish us luck.

As others have noted, it's a very personal choice on what's comfortable.

However, most folks know whether they like a hard or soft mattress, but it can be hard to decide by just laying on one in a store for a few minutes.
