MaxxAir FanMate Installation

Did some searching and didn't see a response to this specific question. Is it proper to, or does anyone remove the sealant where the brackets have to go for a MaxxAir installation? I know that if the sealant is removed, that it must be reapplied after installation, I just don't see any mentioned or removing it first.

I have always mounted the brackets on top of the sealant. That space makes it easier to slide the bolt in place to attach to the vent cover.

Here is a video on how to do it, they want the bracket to lay flat to the body of the vent that why some of the sealant needs to be removed they would not have someone remove all of it just to put a cover over it.

You forgot the link to the video. I did watch the video that Mark Polk did which is the same video that is on the MaxxAir site. The problem with that video is that the install is being done on a simulated mock-up RV roof, so there was no sealant to start with. However, he never said to cut away the old sealant for the bracket installation.
