McClatchy News article on gas prices
I read an article in the morning paper on declining cheap oil and rising prices in the near future. Even taking new discoveries, oil shale, etc. we may be looking at $200 a barrel in four or five years because of world demand. Does this alter anyone's plans for their recreational days ahead? I realize these are doomsday scientists, but it does make me wonder about an investment in a truck and trailer. We are pretty budget conscious and I worry a lot. Thoughts?
Hopefully, this is not a ranting topic. I am just curious about how this may or may not be a rational consideration for you.

Hypothetically, IF fuel prices doubled and IF fuel prices were the limiting factor in our RVing, I suppose we'd travel half as far and stay twice as long at each stop over a year's time.

This topic has come up a few times a year. Some say they will stop traveling, some say they will travel less and some say they will keep doing what they do now. I trust your survey will produce similar results.
I will keep doing what I'm doing now.

Oops. Didn't mean to rehash something. This was a new article on a recent disclosure by a world think tank. It just hit home for me because the wife and I have been saving for a trailer and TV upgrade. I guess I get nervous over any new expenditure.

Oil consumption in the US has declined over the last few decades by something like 25% if I recall correctly (may be more) so much that the oil companies have mothballed a number of refineries so they can maintain the myth that there is a shortage of facilities to process and thus maintain their fat over priced profit levels.
Think about it. that car you drove in the70's likely was doing good if it got double digit millage.. Today 30 MPG is not uncommon, and some push 50 or more.

Why must this thread turn into another oil company witch hunt?? The OP's question was what impact it would have on our RVing IF oil prices doubled, not why they're doubling or whether or not doubling is justified.

Your point is well taken RustyJC,
Apparently when the topic of higher fuel prices come up on the forum it touches a sensitive nerve of many forum members who may distrust and suspect the tactics of the major fuel suppliers are designed to manipulate supply in order to maintain higher prices at the pump.
It would appear pump prices are based on International fuel demand rather than on just on our National fuel demand.
Best regards

And off we go...
Not too sure I like this new "world economy". Seems to me things were a lot better before.

Likely travel less and stay in a CG longer. If the price goes over the top, I guess there will be a tipping point for me.
