Michelin recalls 841,000 BFGoodrich, Uniroyal tires

Michelin recalls 841K BFGoodrich, Uniroyal tires

Quote:
Michelin voluntarily recalled around 841,000 BFGoodrich and Uniroyal tires Thursday because the tread can separate, causing rapid air loss.

The tires being recalled were BFGoodrich commercial tires LT 235/85 and LT245/75 and Uniroyal Laredo tires LT 235/85 and LT245/75.

Michelin said anyone looking for more information can call 800-637-5527 or visit www.bfgoodrichtires.com/voluntarysafetyrecall or www.uniroyaltires.com/voluntarysafetyrecall .
BFGoodrich Commercial TA tires are popular light truck (LT) tires used on both tow vehicles and towables. I have four of the recalled tires on my 5th wheel and will be contacting my tire dealer Monday to get them replaced.

No way there are 800,000 tires in these two sizes in the US supply pipeline. Expect long delays in getting replacements if you don't act quickly.

Ditto, but I will be watching this recall VERY closely. My experience with recalls is they usually start off with a specific model and then the notice is "expanded" to cover additional models. Think Norcold and Dometic refrigerators. This is not something I'm going to ignore.

And thank you REWahoo for posting the links.

When I called my local tire shop late Friday about needing 5 tires for the recall the manager asked that I call back Monday morning. I talked with him about 45 minutes ago and was told Michelin authorized the replacement of my BFG Commercial T/A's with Michelin tires at no charge.

He said he had them in stock and could replace my tires today if I brought the trailer in. I'm headed there right after lunch ...

Back from the tire shop.

They swapped out the BFG Commercial T/A tires I bought in April of 2011 for Michelin LTX M/S2. The date codes for the new tires are between 1412 (April) and 2412 (June), which is more than 18 months 'fresher' than my old set.

Bottom line: Better, newer tires for free. What's not to like?

Hope they wait about 6 more years then recall my tires!! They'd be about 8 years old then.
