Have seen some comments on creating a "Military Forum". Would be great to have an area for our current and former members of the military to "talk shop", moving from one base to another, maybe even help some of the families out there dealing with deployments and the like.
Anyone have any thoughts??

I'm a vet, sounds like a good idea to me. Who knows we may be conversing with someone we might have been stationed with at some point in time.

Being a vet as well I'll run it by the "powers that be".
I suspect that since it is not related to RV's and camping it will not fly.
There are many web sites that assist military vets. Both active and inactive.

Jsut an observation, I visit another RV board that did have a military forum and a Ham radio forum. Both forums had very little activity for the most part when compared to the RV side. There are other forums dedicated to military discussions.

To see if you can generate any activity from folks that may have served near or with you, you could add a line in your signature that list the branch, rank and where you served.

CyberVet65,
My thought would be to make it RV/Camping related for the Vets. If it flys..cool, if not...that's cool too.

I'm a retired Navy vet and I suggested a military forum. Someone said that there are a number of sites to help vets. That may be true, but not in the RV world. A great many active and retired vets have RVs (including here). There is only one place I've found that has a forum for military RVing vets.

Many people don't realize how many RV parks the military own all over the U.S. They even have a book of all the RV parks at military bases run by MWR (Morale, Welfare, Recreation).

I, for one, would love to have a Military Forum for vets (active and retired) that address RVing problems and ideas related to the military.

How about a poll for it?

TwoOfUs:......"Charlie" was the name used to identify the enemy [also "VC" ] in 'nam.....The world has changed so much that we could be typing to the [then enemy] and not even know it if they were moved to the USA and included on this list or anywhere in the world for that matter.....which could happen very easily.....The world has changed considerably since the end of the war.....Our then enemy could be giving us advice and help on RV and other matters-on this very list.....geofkaye

Oh yeah, Pendleton has sites right on the beach. Haven't tried it yet, but it's definitely in the plans. Planning on spending some time in Yuma also. That RV park is also on the water.

George & Cynthia,

I am also retired Navy, (MRC), and also belong to a group, S*M*A*R*T , Special Military Active/Retired Travel Club. As a past president of a local chapter and current secretary/treasurer of a chapter, I can tell you we are small, yet quite active. There are approximately 299 members listed in California alone. The S*M*A*R*T National Muster for 2005 was held in California.

I second investigating the SMART website! It is a well constructed site, even having a map section for each FAMCAMP, so we don't have to wander around post looking for it. I have plans to reserve a spot at the CG station on Marathon Island in the keys but doubt I will get one. They only have 4 sites. You may order the pertinent books on-line, I'll have to find the address and post an update to this.
