Model Number Meaning

Years ago you could normally tell the length of a camper by the model number but somewhere that changed. There is currently a discussion on another forum about it. I understood that the model number was the square feet of it. I had a dealer tell me that the model number was the interior length but a simple tape measurement proved that badly off. The last camper I had was a 310 rkok.it was 31 foot x8foot with a 13 f x3 foot slide and a 2.5 foot by 7 foot slide which comes out to 306 square feet. I currently have a 220rk and it is 25'2 x 8' with a 2' x 8' slide that comes to219 sq feet.
Is it an accident that both of my last 2 campers worked out this way or is it the way they come up with these model numbers? Thanks, Nat

Numbers or designations are picked out of the air. They may or may not have any relation to reality.

Lets see, we had a 36RL that was 40' 4", but at least the RL was for Rear Living Room, now have a 39MB that just shy of 43' and MB stands for Mid Bed room since our Bath is in the nose.

There is no standardized length or model designation system. Each company numbers it RV's for there own system of identification. As an example, Newmar uses the first two digits of it's model number to describe length and the second two numbers for floorplan (4018 = 40' 18 floorplan). My Monaco was a 36SKT. Which meant it was a 36', side aisle, mid kitchen, triple slide. Others will through a 4 in their designation which could be anywhere from 39' to 43'. Each company does what they want.

Actually I have a 31BORT model (31ft, Big Old Rollin Turd - If you have seen the movie RV with Robin Williams I think you will understand the reference) which is my poor old 1998 Georgie Boy Swinger.

Actually a pretty nice old motorhome for the price!
