Mods to RVs

Actually it is federal law that says you may NOT remove the catalytic converter, or any manufacturer installed (factory equipped) pollution control devices.

Will any one enforce that law in your state or county?? But it is the law.

We had a very ugly table lamp that was looking a little worse for wear.

Found at a yard sale a real nice oak one that was a little large, but it would allow storage if we could "work on it" some time later.

It was made in 1987, coach is 1989 so close enough, and the tone matches great.

We had some euro hinges aslo a yard sale find, combined with some leftover maple we were able to carefully peel off the flutes, build a inner door that matched the shape to allow for the flutes to be mounted to the new door.

When closed it is invisible, we added a brass ball from a 400 day clock pendulum for a knob.

Now the lamp matches the rest of the coach, is not ugly and has room for a few remotes and other odd items.

Cost was about $10.00 and it kept us busy for a couple days of "thinkering"

Thinking about how to tinker the project...

We will be replacing the weird wood kitchen counter top the previous owner installed,,, along with reinstalling the stove top and a new double sink instead of the itty bitty single sink. But it will have to wait till we can get the mh inside its new house,,, or it warms up outside...

I think that regulation pertains to a commercial garage or dealership only, but I could be mistaken....

I haven't done much yet. Our RV didn't come with a TV so I reinforced a cabinet and mounted a LCD/DVD under the cabinet.

I also went to Home Depot and bought some cheap carpet with backing (sold by the foot and less than $5 total) and put it over the existing carpet on the stairs and in the cab to catch dirt tracked into the RV. It's very light and easy enough to fold up and shake out.

I installed a winterizing kit at the pump and a by pass valve at the water heater.

I cobbled together a DISH Network system with parts bought on craigslist (less than $40 total). I want a roof mounted system but for now I'm using a tripod mounted HD dish.

I will replace my one 12V house battery with two 6V in the spring.

I plan to scrub the whole RV clean to remove oxidization and yellowing then finish it with Redmax Pro.

My biggest challenge to come is finding and fixing the leak in the shower and repairing the drivers side exterior corner that warped due to the leak.

So that's my boring list. Nothing fancy...

Think about putting the dish on the roof
when you park at campgrounds the trees may block
your signal I have a tripod and like that I can put it
anywhere I need to have 100ft of line.

I may go with one of the tailgater models for this very reason plus it's less than half a roof top model.. The only challenge is securing it somehow. I imagine it could grow legs pretty fast

I went with the Winegard carryout MP1 it
sets up easy and easy to level the dish,
and that is the most important part secures
to the ground easy and is small does not take up
a lot of room when storing

We have a 2000 Newmar Mountain Aire. Old tv's, too much carpet, out dated tile in the bathroom, bright brass fixtures, time for some "mods" as you put it.

Ripped out the old tv along with the cabinets around it and installed a new 42" plasma with all new cabinets. I'm a cabinet maker by trade so, yea I did it myself.

Took out all the old tile and carpet and had new 12*24 porcelain tile put in (just like in the new ones) and new carpet in the slideout and bedroom.

Took out all the old window shades and that hated curtain in the cockpit and installed all new MCD DUO SHADES.

Replaced all the bright brass cabinet hardware with weathered iron and painted all the bright brass light fixtures with black weathered iron.

Installed flip up 32" tv in the basement storage area.

Recovered the master bedroom window valances.

I stopped into Camping World on my lunch break and saw this unit. Would I have to move it manually if a channel is on a different "bird"? Dish has three satellites in my area and I wouldn't want to have to move it everytime I switched to a channel on a different sat. Just wondering if this is a good option for me or if the taligater is better. I like the price of the Carryout MP1.
