Useful if you need one. Otherwise its better to do inspections and take care of potential problems before you need it. AKA preventive maintenance.

It Could be handy

Especially for that price. We had a pipe burst in the house this past December. The restoration company that Geico sent had these devices. They ran a giant dehumidifier and came back every day until all the areas that had been wet were dried out. (and everything else in the house like plants, etc.) If one were trying to isolate a leak this could be handy to find the wet areas. I run a dehumidifier in the coach when it is home for a visit. I have a large portable unit that must weigh 75lbs. I put it in the shower and let it drain down the shower drain. I have a full hookup at the house so I can easily dump the grey tank. It is amazing how much water that unit can process.

Absolutely useful. I have got a Trotec BM31 which has a ball instead of the points, so you do not destroy any surface using it. The thing shows you moisture in relation to dry areas so is indicative.

Has helped me a couple of times to find water in the walls when looking for a new (used) RV

Best regard from Germany
