Hi and welcome to the forum.

You do want to do some research on this. Many here have used it successfully for years to meet their particular needs. There have been some things happening recently which makes it even more important to fully research something like this before you decide to move on it.

If you use our search feature, you'll find a month's worth of reading on the subject.

Check on insurance rates for a LLC Vs a private ownership. There may be a big difference.

I believe you will have to have to have a Montana driver's permit as well, unless the laws have changed. The age of computers have brought more and more accurate ways of checking on 'dual citizenship'. We looked into that is very issue, but had to give up too many things - voting in Georgia, licenses in Georgia, Georgia tax breaks - not to mention insurances particular to our real home state. The Montana tax breaks we would have gotten did not offset the benefits the Georgia residency has afforded us

Hi ruffinittoo,
Montana or South Dakota will not be the problem. While the annual fixed costs need to be understood, the legal problem will be the state you have declared as your domicile. Make sure you understand the State tax and DMV laws of your domicile state.

As long as you don't still own a residence that you would be spending time at, a MT LLC MAY be ok. As others have posted, states are getting more aggressive about looking for tax avoiders. IMHO, it's just not worth the worry, isn't the tax in SD just 3%? Register everything there and travel on! It costs about $1,200 or more to set up the LLC, that could go a long way to pay your excise tax in SD. Yearly registration in SD is very reasonable and so is insurance.
