Mother’s Day Ruined

Well yesterday the DW and I drove out to the ocean, where we had reservations for a weeks stay at a full hook up site with a private camp ground. Arrived at 12:40, sign on office says be back at 1:05, no problem I say, we’re in #42 so we drive over and there’s a bumper pull in #42 with no tow vehicle around. So I wait at the office until the lady came back from lunch. I explain it to her, and she calls the guy that was supposed to be out of my site by noon. Well he cussed her out and hung up on her. She then asked if I would take a different spot, I agree and she was so happy. Then she said you can have site 38 and then tomorrow you can move back to 42. I said I’m not moving tomorrow, I’ll take another spot for the week. She said there’s no other spots open for the week. I tell her sorry but in that case I want my original spot for the week. So about that time a guy comes in mad that this lady screwed up his wife’s mother’s day. She said move are I’ll call the Sheriff. So an hour later he’s gone we’re unhooked and I’m doing the things on the outside and DW is doing things on the inside. Now I got that guy that seems to be in every park, talking my ear off. I stick my head in the door and asked my wife to turn on the sinks because I’m turning on the water, and I want to flush the air out, okay she says. I turn the hose bib on and start doing other things. About 10 or 15 minuets later, she says I thought you were turning the water on, I did, she says well it’s not on. I double checked and the hose bib was on, I go inside and no water at the kitchen sink, then I open the bathroom door, it was FLOODING, not just with water but with brown water. I ran out turned off the hose, and realized what an idiot I was. I guess my head was somewhere besides my shoulders, because I hooked the hose up to my black tank flush. After the tank filled it had no where to go except out between the bathroom floor and the toilet. Let’s just say we’ve had better mother’s days.

Ouch! Better luck on Fathers Day! We've all done something bad.

Been there, done that! Fortunately, I caught it before it overflowed.

I put a "Y" fitting in my wet bay with a one way check valve on one side. From the one way check valve, I ran a short hose over to the black tank rinse fitting. The "Y" fitting has shut off valves on both sides, so it's just a matter of turning the valves to flush while I'm still hooked up to city water. Works great, and hopefully I won't have a bad day like that!
Sorry to hear about your bad mothers day!
Happy Glamping for the rest of the week.
PS. Another little project for you.

That's one of the reasons I don't talk to anyone while setting things up. It only takes me about 15 minutes to get everything set up, once I have the MH in it's place and all leveled up. They can wait that long to talk, or I just stop what I'm doing. I think we've all been there where we get distracted and get out of our normal set up pattern, and then something is not right. Oh well at least your out camping and will probably never do that again. Relax and have fun now.

I'm sorry for your messy situation but that is a funny story. We have all done some dumb things while setting up or taking down. I hope things are not too bad and you have better days ahead of you.

We came awfully close to your story a couple of months after we got our last trailer. It was the first one we had with a black tank flush, and Kevin connected the fresh water to the wrong connector. Luckily I was near the bathroom, heard the unusual noise, and discovered it right before it was going over! He turned it off quickly when I yelled, and we just had to do some minor cleaning. It was awfully close though.

Check and double check your work. Then check once more before flipping any switches.
I tell all my customers who are new or have a large boat to laminate a page with set up and bread down steps on it.

You can even make it with check boxes and a dry erase pen if you want.

No more driving away with the shore power cord attached!!!!!!!!!

Next time Mr. Talk talk comes by, be very careless with your garden hose, shooting water near or at him. He may decide to chat later.

I avoid getting distracted when setting up camp. I will always and politely ask them to come back and chat later. We'll have a beer together then.

US Hardware RV Hose Plug 1 pk(RV-460C)

Get yourself one of these, I put one in the black tank flush and only remove when I am flushing the tank. I almost did that not once but twice.
