Motocraft Battery Question

The Motocraft Battery in my 2014 E450 Super Duty has an 'eye'

The only other battery I ever had that had an 'eye' was an AC Delco and if it was good to go it was green.

I am a 'bad owner' and never paid attention to the vehicle battery only the 6 volt coach batteries which I religiously check the water levels in and add distilled water as is necessary.

Today I went to get my unit and the battery was dead and the eye appears red. I have not used it since our return from the desert south west in mid March and when I have been exercising my generator I never started the E450 (my bad).

That color should the 'eye' be in a charged state and will the battery recover after some long daylight driving or is it 'kaput'

It is probably black when good and will turn red when bad. You can charge it up and then have it tested but I believe it is time for a new one.

Thanks for the quick answer.

The coach is in my driveway now and plugged in so the fridge gets cold.

Does shore power charge the vehicle or is it seperate from the chassis and only charge the coach batteries and run the appliances (fans, tv, microwave etc)

I was at Harbor Freight this am and I guess I should have bought a tricle charger

Lots of Class C 's don't charge the start battery from the house battery.

I picked up a "Yandina" battery combiner and wired it on both sides of the solenoid that connects the start battery to the house battery, while the engine is running.

When the MH is on shore power or generator power the unit sends charging voltage to the start battery.

I have had a number of ac delco batteries that the eye was either green and the battery toast or black and the battery fine. Those eyes are a sales ploy do not rely on it.

I would guess you have a 50-50 chance the battery is OK. If you are camping where your house batteries will not be run way down I would try it and see. If you doing some hard boondocking and don't have a towed(to get a jump) I would replace the battery.
