Motor home on the road hit by shotgun blast
My best friend and his wife were going to a desert camp-out a week ago. They were towing a jeep with their Southwind Class A 32-footer. At Redlands, CA, they were hit in the driver's side window by a shotgun blast from an oncoming car just as the two vehicles passed each other. My friend got a shower of glass, a cut wrist and some glass dandruff. Other than that, he wasn't hurt. Apparently, the upward angle of the shotgun blast from the lower car caused the pellets to ricochet off the window, but shattered it in the process. They pulled over and called the police. According to the responding officers, this wasn't the first time something like this happened in the area. Just what we RVers need.

That is scary! I'll never look at passing traffic the same way again.

Wow, glad they're alright. Scary to think now we have to watch approaching traffic on the left.

Have a continuous running and recording forward camera (24-48 hr loop). That's how they will get caught.

I live close to Redlands and there have been a series of "events" like this in the past few months. Motor homes have not been targeted primarily, but caution should be used in the area until the knucklehead or heads are arrested. On a side note, I drive a cement mixer and have had cups of ice, Big Gulps etc thrown at my windshield over the years.

I can not see the "fun" in doing stuff like that. I remember when Florida had the guy shooting people on the freeway. Took them a while to catch him. Hope these idiots are caught before someone is seriously injured or killed.

A forward mounted recording camera would might be good for something throwing rocks or whatever at your windshield. I think you can collect from the vehicle, but, you'll need to prove it. The camera might be the proof you'll need if the resolution is good.

I believe in giving everyone a chance to redeem themselves but these people need to face the consequences before someone innocent person is serious injured (or worse). This goes beyond childish pranks and giggles!

Yep, I'm thinking about installing a fwd video camera before our next trip. I don't know if people are getting disgusted with RVs on their roads or there are just more mean people taking out their frustrations by committing 'road vandalism'.
In Canada, on a gravel break, we had a 'road vandal' in a small pickup truck, towing a small empty trailer come into our lane. Then, at the last possible moment he whipped back into his lane causing the trailer to skid sideways throwing gravel all over us. The first time this happened, just some dings on the front end and very small flecks were blasted into the windshield. It wasn't an hour later the same thing(different truck/empty trailer) happened, only the second time was more successful. The trailer picked up a larger stone and that one got us...large stone ding that shattered a half dollar sized area in the passenger side ws. Twice in an hour...just my luck - wrong place at the right time.
Same trip, while in Alaska...we were traveling toward Tok on the Tok Cutoff, again on a long section of road repair - one looong gravel break. Saw a tractor-trailer coming over the upcoming hill. I could tell he was pouring the coals to it and I immediately came to a stop as far to the right without dropping a dual off the raised road bed. The suckka came within three feet of us doing over 60mph, throwing all kinds of dirt/dust and gravel all over us. Again, in the middle of nowhere, no cell service, no witnesses and no way to turn around...damn. VERY helpless feeling and mad. I WANT one of those video cameras! Bob
BTW, on our trip to Alaska, we met some others that had the same thing happen to them(same scenario), so we found out this type of sick entertainment is NOT an isolated thing. One Blue-Bird RV suffered a seriously damaged windshield. The owner said it was lucky his wife was wearing sunglasses and the cat was not in her 'spot' where the rock hit...they had glass shards in the aft section of their kitchen.
I once saw a bumper sticker that read: MEAN people SUCK! I really don't like inflammatory bumper stickers...but I'll have to agree with the sentiment.

I ordered one last week, need to go by my mail stop and see if it's in yet.
When we had our '98 Santara I was coming back (literally) from the dealer after having the windshield replaced. A small PU passed me and something hit the windshield, breaking it again!! As I thought back on it I remembered seeing a hand come out of the P/U drivers window in a throwing motion just before the object struck. I think it was probably a ball bearing.
