Motorhome Magazine
Anybody read the “Hot Line” section of the January 2014 issue of Motorhome Magazine? There is a reader complaining about issues dealing with Coach-Net RV Roadside Assistance, a direct competitor of Good Sam Roadside Assistance, which of course is owned by the same massive conglomerate that owns Motorhome Magazine. Isn’t it funny how this is the second month that this section was dedicated to a Coach-Net complaint. I found it even more interesting to find a Good Sam Roadside Assistance ad on the very next page. Apparently they think we’re all idiots. I’m not knocking Good Sam Roadside Assistance, I just don’t like biased articles in my magazines.
Ok, my rant is over...

If we stop and think about it, the vast majority of magazines are biased in some fashion these days. I just take everything like that with a grain of salt. There are always two sides to a story and one or both may have an agenda. I suggest not continuing to read publications that upset us.
By the way, I have neither Coach Net, or GS, so I have no bias.

I too have neither service and noticed the blatant Coach-Net/GS complaint/product placement. When Marcus asked why I was canceling my Good Sam membership, I told him I was tired of all the email/junk mail and the ads in MH magazine in addition to the ever-so-frequent articles pushing GS and Camping World products and services. At least all the pages of ads for CW used coaches have shrunk or disappeared. My bachelor's degree is in journalism and I was editor-in-chief of the university paper. I'd have to say that the magazine serves more as an open advocate for the conglomerate's business than as an information provider to customers.

Personally, I still like the magazine when it shows up at my door.
I don't read the advertisements so it doesn't phase me.
Makes good bathroom reading!
Maybe a person could put the advertising pages to better use in there! LOL

The purpose of magazines is to put the paid advertisers message in front of its subscribers. Oh, and did I mention make money for the publisher. Motorhome, FMCA Motorcoach and others put just enough stuff (articles) into their rags so that they don't read like one of the Montgomery- Ward Catalogs. Wonder if the paper is easily dissolved, would make colorful, even slick toilet paper. Read & dispose, how environmentally correct. safe ready and ........ ed

Along the same lines, I received a "Renewal" notice for the Good Sam Roadside Assistance, that I DON'T have.
Always someone trying to fool the public.

I used Coach-Net in the past and I found out they also own the breakdown-service for Hagerty Collector Car breakdown service. I used them once with my Monaco Diplomat. It needed fuel filters changed as it was losing power on grades and they directed me to the nearest Cummins Engine dealer. The last time my '09 Challenger SRT picked up a bolt in the sidewall and they had a flatbed tow there in 45 mins. I trust them.

I enjoy getting Motor Home and look forward to reading the articles. I pay little attention to the ads though. If I want something I will look on the internet for 'possible' sources and go from there. Some of the articles are written so that they can be easily understood. Just another way of presenting different views.

I am going to try the bogo deal. I used to be a member of FMCA and maybe they can let me use my old number.

At one time I liked MH magazine. I bought an issue last month and it was terrible. Forst, it was so thin and very little actual articles. I really like trailer life. They have a lot of articles that transfer over to coaches but its still devoted more toward towables. Isn't there a really good mag out there devoted to motorhomes? You all are very right, since lemonis took it over the magazine is terrible. Look what he did at autonation. I could tell you all kinds of crap that went on there.

I get it and just renewed my subscription but................I realize the slant towards Good Sams and CW and read the magazine in that light. (I take the Good Sams cover off the magazine when I get it!!) Otherwise, I do pick up some ideas and places to explore, gadgets that exist and a preview of the new MH's coming out without having to go to a dealership. As a side note, we have Good Sams road side asst. We've had to use it twice and it's been great, but I know of no other company that puts out so much junk mail.

Downloadable Motorhome Version
Is anyone else unhappy about the recent decision to NOT allow us to download a .pdf version of the magazine? I was told this decision was made to control people sharing .pdf copies with their friends, thus reducing the number of subscribers! Guess I don't understand the difference in sharing a .pdf copy or a hard copy with friends. The reason I subscribed in the first place was a friend gave me several copies of the magazine and I liked what I read. (Several years ago)
Looks like Motorhome has discovered one more way to alienate subscribers and force us to not renew!
