after driving our 2005 itasca HORIZON dp all the way from texas to iowa i thought one of the mh tires blew. There was a loud clunking sound coming from the rear of mh. The mh also shook and moved side to side, like when you don't have enough air in tires. This happened as i was slowing down from 60 mph to 20 mph going down hill on exit ramp, then turning slowly to my left.

I got out examined all tires on mh and toad, 3 times. I found nothing wrong, so i took off again slowly. I drove another 5 miles with no problems.

Tire pressures 100 lbs mh, 35 on toad.
mh air system pressures 125 lbs, normal.
engine break on low. I always leave it on low.

This same thing happened once before, but i didn't find anything wrong then either. Does anyone have a suggestion on what is going on?

Broken motor or transmission mount?

Measure the width between the rear tire Ans the coach body on each side os the mh. If their is a difference, you may something shifting.

Motor was overhauled last year. you have a good idea, just not good for me if your right.

i will do just that. I also am running 295's instead of the stock 275's, so clearance is tight in the fender wells.

Worn suspension link bushing? Could also be as simple as some road surface bumps that you did not visually see, but felt through the tires rolling over. If the problem persists, then more investigation and determine what causes it to happen will help to identify what needs fixed. If no more, chalk it up to road surface or something like that.

Had a similar situation a few years back. The outer ply of the sidewall had blown, but air remained in the tire. A few miles farther, the tread separated from the tire, but still had air in the tire.

Could be a bad belt in the tire. I had this happen before and it took some looking to figure out. Good luck

Great idea 38Chevy454! I will have Freightliner check this out.
38 Chevy was one of my favorite large coupes!

My tires will be 5 years old in November.

I will have them checked out too.
