Motorhome year

I recently purchased a 28 ft.Fleetwood storm from Camping world, all the paperwork we signed and received and was told the camper was a 2015 when we received our title from the state the title said it was a 2014,do I need to call camping world or an attorney first? thanks for any suggestions

All of our motorhomes have been built on a chassis registered one year earlier. It doesn't change the fact that we own a specific year of motorhome. And they all depreciate at an alarming rate anyhow.

What we do is keep that in mind when buying chassis parts or looking for repair procedures.

Some states, incorrectly, use the chassis year code from the chassis VIN instead of the RV manufacturer model year when they issue the title. I would try to get CW to go to bat with the DMV and change the year to the RV manufacturer year. I've been told that DMVs who do this are actually in violation of federal law. I've never pursued it.

depends on if your happy with purchase.. if I was I would go talk to manager and just ask him what can be done. maybe get some free stuff for the yr difference. or give you option of full refund, ect. I would never get nasty till I had to..i would think most times if you say I called lawyer and went in and stated problem and wanted action it would be undesirable

Chassis year and coach build year often dont align. DMV should be using the coach year for age. I've had three motorhomes in CA with chassis older than the house. CA DMV reflects the house year.

I had a 2010 model year Newmar that I bought in 2009 that was built on a 2008 chassis. All the paperwork and the title were 2010, as they should have been. As already stated by most above, the title should be the model-year of the motorhome, not the chassis year.

Florida and most states use the year the box (MH) was built not the chassis year.
I hope CW will fix this but don't hold your breath.

The 10th digit of vehicle identification number will determine what year the DMV uses. All vehicles sold in the U.S. since 1981 use a standard 17 digit VIN. There is lots of information on Google that will detail what all the different numbers mean.

My 2004 Monaco Executive has a Roadmaster chassis that was built in 2003 and a Cummins engine that was built in 2002, it is still a 2004. The title should say what year it is and there should be a plate on the outside that has the year on it. I look at it the same way as when building a house, the foundation is always older than the roof.

You may run into ‘issues ‘ if the chassis warranty start date began before the coach was attached to the chassis and completed. If buying new, try to have the dealer put IN WRITING that the warranty on ALL items start on the date the contract is signed. Good luck.

I had a Newmar class A that was built on a 1999 chassis, and titled as a 99. When I called Newmar for parts, they stated it was a 2000 model.

The 10th digit of the chassis VIN only designates the manufacture year of the chassis and not the manufacture year of the completed vehicle. The completed vehicle manufacture year is listed on the RV MSO (manufacturers statement of origin) and should be carried over to the state issued title. If it isn't, your state is not preparing the title correctly.

I have a 2016 coach and a 2016 chassis. it was built late in the year. I have had 8 coaches and this is the 1st one that has the same year coach and chassis.
