"RV" redirects here. For research vessels, see R/V. For other uses, see RV (disambiguation).

A recreational vehicle (RV) is a motor vehicle or trailer which includes living quarters designed for temporary accommodation.[1][2] Types of RVs include motorhomes, campervans, caravans (also known as travel trailers and camper trailers), fifth-wheel trailers, popup campers and truck campers.
Not all of us on this forum own an RV, Motor home, trailer, fiver, or anything. Some of us are trying to learn about them so we can make an intelligent decision when we get ready to buy. Some of us appreciate the people who take the time to ask intelligent, applicable, questions and and give cogent answers. Otherwise, our time is wasted. Thanks for your comment, I hope you get a cogent answer.

Actually carts, bicycles, barges, trailers, stagecoaches etc. are all by definition, “Vehicles”, a word that predates motorized vehicles by decades. The vehicle term by definition applies to both, and it’s how they are viewed by most of the non rving population in my experience. You have to step up to a tiny house to be one of the upscale kids.

Please people, it does not matter it you have a travel trailer, fifth wheel, motorhome, boat, or even a cart you use for recreation, they are all rvs, Google vehicle. A vechicle usually has a motor but does have to. Safe travels.

Well I went from a 1990 Ford F350 with a Lance camper and some people started saying " Nice rig" and I liked the sound of it. I now have a 2000 Alpine Coach Limited Edition; says it outside. I like calling it the Alpine, Diesel Pusher or even Coach which it is. Hey it's new to me so I like having fun with the "Word play ". Big kid with a Toy I never dreamed I'd own!

WOW

Truly this is an amazing thread. If anyone reads the whole thing, then they have displayed an impressive ability to waste time doing nothing constructive. The level of boredom to facilitate this is overwhelming. I read pages 1 & 7 and found that to have been a mistake. Should you not be out flushing your tanks or adding chemicals to your fuel, for the winter? This reminds me of the question of "how many fairies can dance on the head of a pin" question. This is such a pithy rant, I can scarcely contain myself. I think it is time for another Margarita.

Motor home, RV, Or coach?

The motorhome/RV thing is a good question, but when do you quit calling your motorhome or RV that, and call it a “Coach”? Is there a dollar amount or are Diesel pushers “coaches”? Please help me with my terminology!

I feel measurably dumber for having even looked at this post. Shame on me.

Our rig:
1997 Ford CF8000 housetruck.

The bureaucrats title it 'motorhome'. And who can argue with bureaucrats! [sighs deeply, shakes head in worrisome despair] [vows to re-study entire thread in hopes of illumination]

And I believe the proper question is == how many leprechauns can dance on the head of a troll? Is the underside of a bridge required?

I'll let you know after I check with the bureaucrats.
