Mountain Directories

I did a search and was surprised that I didn't find a post(s) about these directories. I recently looked them up on Amazon only to find they were outrageously priced (actually thought it was an error), so I found that I could buy them directly from the publisher. I also advised him in case he wasn't aware of the problem ordering them on through Amazon. Here is his response.

"Following is the explanation I received about the pricing of the directories at Amazon. Thought you might be interested.

Hello and thank you very much for promoting my books.

I am aware of what is going on at Amazon, but I cannot explain it. They have been pricing books (not just mine) like that for several years now. And they still show "new" books available even though I have not sold any new books to them in several years. I quit doing business with them and Barnes & Noble, and Camping World quite some time ago. They were making far more money from my efforts than I was, and I just decided to cut them off. I got to the point where I wasn't making it with them, so it wasn't much of a risk to try it without them, and it has been much better without them.

I know you didn't ask for such a long explanation, but it sounded like you might be interested.

Thanks again for your continued support and recommendations."

Sincerely,
Richard Miller

I ordered the Mountain Directory West from Mr. Millers website and couldn't be happier. Very detailed locations and descriptions of over 400 mountain passes and grades with other helpful tips on mountain driving. This was a no brainer for us living in the West and reasonably priced at $19.95 including shipping. If you've ever traveled down I-17 between Flagstaff and Phoenix it's nice to know what's ahead of you BEFORE making the decent!

We've referenced these directories often.

I have both and find them invaluable.

I have the 2000 editions of both directories. Still good information. Some roads have improved, so far haven't found any that are worse.
My copies were only $14.95 ea. (From R&R Publishing)

We've had the directories for years and they are great. Make you feel much more confortable as you know what you are facing before you actually arrive.

It is fine from Durango to Silverton. Between Silverton and Ouray I would definately not take a MH or trailer.

Thanks for a good reference site. I have or had most of the guides at one tome. All are helpful. I like "Next Exit", too.
