When we first started using the motorhome, I would set up my laptop on the dinette table and Rick would keep his with him while he sat in his recliner chair. When it was time for meals, I'd just scoot my laptop to the side, but it's 17" so it took up a lot of space on the table, and I didn't want to spill anything on it. So, being inspired by MonacoMama using the steering wheel for a table and a special corner, I decided to try using the driver's seat and steering wheel for desk space. It easily tilts and telescopes.

We purchased a lap desk at Staples for less than $20. It's big enough to hold the laptop with a little space on the sides. It has a bean bag pillow bottom that hugs the steering wheel and allows ventilation underneath. We use a little velcro strap to attach the desk to the steering wheel, just in case it gets bumped.

I have a small basket next to the cup holder to hold stuff. I'm within reach of the radio, TV, and can recline and put my feet up. We both like to use the front seats because of the big window and the usually nice view. I think this "office" is much nicer than the one in the stick house.

Hey Rick & Mic... what a great idea!!! I already have a lap desk for my laptop which I use when we are actually traveling down the road, but I love the idea of using the steering wheel for it when we're parked. Going to have to see how that works for us! Our steering wheel does not go fully flat, though. Where do you put the velcro?

Monaco Mama's good idea leads to another!

By the way, I'm a passenger when I'm using the laptop as we're traveling down the road, just to clarify!

I'll get a photo of just the lap desk in the next day or so. The lap desk has a cut out handle and the desk is almost as big as the steering wheel. The velcro attachs to the handle and the wheel, keeping it secure. The desk can also be used for any other portable task I needed, such as writing, some crafts, etc.

I wish I had that view when I worked at my desk!
