What great stories .....
My first was a "fold-out" trailer ... literally folded out two 4X8 plywood panels with 4" mattresses ... we used sleeping bags, nothing built in just good ole Coleman lantern, stove & heater ........... way too much fun .... and could drag it up any mountain behind the jeep ... just a tent .. off the ground.
From there to a pickup topper for fishing trips to a Dodge Maxi-Van (when they first came out) converted with a almost queen in the back ... this for weekends in the boating days .... and then nothing for several years until now ....
But now is different .... tho we try to find the most "camping" style parks we can find, its all about being "home" !!!

Well I started with backpack and a sleeping bag. But my first true RV had to be my pickup truck with a cap on it and an air mattress. Many camping trips like that. We once rode out a hurricane in it. After that we got a Coleman popup. Loved that and better with the kids.

2004 Fleetwood/Coleman Niagara Elite Folding Trailer.

I wanted to introduce my kids, (4 and 5 at the time), to camping but the DW did not like sleeping on the ground.

So, a popup, (with 2 king beds, slide out dinette, AC, furnace, shower, refrigerator, galley stove, outside grill, and cassette toilet), was the compromise.

Our first was a 1987 Toyota Dolphin, 22 ft, 4 cyl engine and fully self contained. Kept it from September '87 until May '05. DW and I actually lived in it for 5 years prior to my USAF retirement while stationed in Phoenix, AZ. I left here for a one year overseas tour and couldn't get an assignment back to Nellis and we did not want to sell our house here. Closet, storage, and extra sleeping space was provided by a purchasing a trashed out 1977 12 foot Scottie semi-tear drop trailer. I gutted and repaired it, basically as a closet for DW.

Interesting stories. My first "RV" was a 1975 Kawasaki Z1 with a 3 man tent and a couple of sleeping bags hanging off of the luggage rack. Almost 100,000 miles of fun on that machine and many a night under the stars.

First real "camper" was a "Bunkhouse" pop-up trailer that I pulled behind my Kawasaki Nomad or the family Subaru. Kind of miss those days.

My 1st was a 63 Chevy Greenbriar (Corvair van) with homemade, removable beds, storage and kitchen.

Our first MH was a 1972 24' Explorer we purchased in 1979. Before that we used a 1973 3/4 ton Dodge van I ordered new and I converted the interior for sleeping with insulation, paneling and carpet.

Like others, it all started with a tent, then a 17' travel trailer that weighed about 17 tons.

But our first true Motorhome (RV) purchase was a 2000 35' Winnebago Adventurer V10 Gasser.

As a child we first stated renting a TT. We then had a push in camper for the truck. Our next was a 26ft TT. My first rv as an adult was a 2005 Georgie Boy, Landau. We now have a 2008 Thor. Four Winds. Mandalay DP. This will be our last RV.

Another VW Westfalia owner here. I was infatuated with them as a young boy. A lady in our neighborhood bought a brand new Westy in about 1969, and she gave all of us kids the "grand tour" to satisfy our curiosity. Much like the bedroom "blanket fort," kids are attracted to things that are just the right size for them. My first one was a 1983 with the diesel engine. Yup, an extra small diesel pusher. I have owned several of them since then, and still have a Eurovan Winnebago camper in addition to the MH.
