Nasty roads

We really were disappointed with almost every road that were on, from Decatur, ILL to Dayton Ohio
. I'm sure there is no money available for fixing roads properly. Too bad makes it tough. With all the hard hits on our toe Dollie the light/mount broke completely off. Tried to fix that. Needless to say we lost the second new taillight also. So now time to find a welder and try to fix it right. Good luck to everyone sure hope your roads are better than ours were. Have fun RVN

We couldn’t agreed more. We just returned traveling from NC through KY, to Cincinnati to Dayton to Akron to Nappanee visiting friends and for Newmar service. For the most part, the interstates we traveled on in Ohio were horrible. Virginia and NC were mostly good. The WVa turnpike was acceptable. The shorter construction season, lack of highway funds, and harsher winters are evident in Ohio.

We went up in February and I thought (33?) thru Ohio both the four and two lane were pretty great.

in Ohio its mostly 75 and 70 that are bad, they are major truck corridors, heavy truck traffic and a never ending winter have take their toll on the road.

We've taken to using state routes whenever feasible. Interstates are horribly bone-jarring.

We'll use state roads as long as they are 4 lane. Been stuck behind too many slow drivers on 2 lane roads.

7 yrs we FTd we ONLY traveled on secondary/back roads trying not to use the same route twice.

Interstates are for 'transport'----truckers, vacationers, commuters etc.

We just returned from a trip from home in Troy, IL to Columbus, OH; Elkhart, IN; Holland, MI; and back. I-70 and I-80/90 (Indiana Toll Road from I-69 to Elkhart) in Indiana were the worst I have ever driven on. I-196 from Grand Rapids, MI to where it intersects I-80 and I-94 east of Chicago was almost as bad. I was surprised I didn't have serious issues with things falling off the MH. All the locals in IN and MI told me the harsh winter played havoc with all their roads this year. What time we spent off the interstates, the roads were pretty good.

we are still vacationers and soon to be full timers in a few years and I agree with this. We use interstates for very fast, get there travel. On occasions when time and vacations days are not severely limited, we drive the secondary roads for the relaxing adventures and scenery they provide. I can't wait for that day that we become an ONLY secondary roads travelers

OP, yea roads are rough out there
I don't think the states can keep up with the repairs and more required. Horrible interstate delays and more thru construction etc. One thing we will be avoiding in the future if we can.

I think the states have gone for the lowest bidder to many times and these companies do not do a good base so the road deteoriates quickly.

In MI we have seen them scrape off the top 2 inches and then just resurface the road. I think in some places the thickness could be as thin as a inch. All the old potholes and deformities are still there and they come back the next year.

They have been let go for so long that now the cost and time required to FIX them is beyond the bank account.

Both our dolly fenders cracked on our trip to Tucson from Missouri. I sent this picture to the factory and asked if this was normal. I was told yes. With the condition of the roads today this is normal. Offered to sell me 2 new fenders. I declined. Had my son in law, a welder of 30 years, weld them up. They broke again last year. Sigh

Yup, I am thinking the same thing.

Inter-structure failure. Been coming and is here for sure. Bandaids on correct fixes never work in the long run.

When we travel to the east coast from Chicago we use US30 across Indiana and Ohio. I have given up on the toll roads, overpriced, poor maintenance and boring. US30 is not perfect but I like it better than the toll roads. The last time we went to Maryland's Eastern Shore, it cost ~$120 one way in tolls. Too much!
