Need advice on first rig for full timing
I posted this on my introduction, but thought I might get more help here:
To expand on where we are, and our interests;
We plan to purchase Jan/Feb 2017, and begin to fulltime as soon as we sell the house. Wife and dogs will camp near her parents when I'm OCONUS. We are quite interested in a " gently used" diesel less than three years old, but won't start looking at those until late fall. Our criteria for used would include finding an RV used by non-smokers.
As for now we are spending our weekends shopping and looking at floor plans. We are looking at Class A diesel and gas, as well as Super C diesels.
Needs:
Minimum 38 feet
Good Arctic pack
Very open floor plan (3 dogs)
Lots of storage (an issue in the Dynamax Force I like does not have according to wife)
Ability to safely tow a jeep or larger SUV through the western mountains.
Washer dryer- pstackable
1 1/2 bath
After negotiations, we' d like to be around $ 185k-our research indicates that we should expect a 30-40 % drop below MSRP, so we
plan on $185k + 30-40 % when we are looking.
ETA HH6 Says we have to have bunk beds too.
As we will have to return to FL and TX regularly, I am concerned about gas burners, but wife loves the space of the Georgetown XL...she also likes the Legacy...and we hear good things about Tiffins.

Good luck. I'd start looking now. Took me 10 months to find my rig and I looked every day, multiple times. Lots of crap out there and the good rigs usually go real quick! Found a perfect CC Magna, damn thing sold for asking in less than 6hrs 😡

When you start seriously looking and are ready to buy, have all your money in place / arranged so as to be able to do a deal quickly. This will snag the good one you want before others get to it and at a best possible price.

Sounds like you know what you want and some of the options will reduce the number of available coaches quite a bit. Artic Package, bath & 1/2, and bunks combined is not very common so if you used these key words for a search you will narrow down the field quickly.
We looked for several years to find our coach and we were not set in stone on any particular options other then a Diesel Pusher. We did want a quality coach that had been taken care of.

Good advice. We went and looked at one last weekend. While we were there looking it over, another couple showed up, the seller got three more calls. Seller finally came over to me and I said "we'll take it" if there is no bidding war, which I refused to get involved in. He was o.k. with it. He asked if the money was right. I said yes. Very nice people. rule #1, get your ducks lined up. We pick it up Sunday

Just a suggestion: buy your rig before you sell the house. It will make financing much easier.

Look, look, look.... We thought we knew what we were going to want when we were early in the process -- but as we sat in various units and "imagined ourselves living there" our criteria changed.
Regarding the W/D -- that was a priority for us, but we have only used the washer about 2 - 3 times in the past six months (we sometimes use the dryer to finish up clothes that weren't quite dry). Most campgrounds & volunteer sites have decent laundry facilities, and when you are boondocking you don't have the water to do laundry. We would probably have been better off allocating the space and weight to other storage.

Check out the residental Outlaw. The best part is the drop down deck in the back.

My wife and I were at one time time looking for the same coach you are. Only thing we could find was the Fleetwood Discovery model 42A years 2011, 12, and 13. Bunk beds reduce the wardrobe space.

You have a lot of research to do. Not all motorhomes are alike. Chassis, engines, quality, can be significantly different. When it comes to engines look at the torque not HP.
Four slides will give you the most room or a full slide.

The residential Outlaws are amazing with bath and a half, and 9foot tall ceilings in the bedroom!
And will add that the Outlaw 37MD and Newmar Canyon Star 3921...Class A Toy Haulers...provide space for full or long timers that conventional RV's cannot offer:
http://www.newmarcorp.com/motor-coac...star/overview/
Or
https://thormotorcoach.com/outlaw/class-a/
Both have a beautiful salon (living, dining, kitchen area) a formal bedroom midship, and a large garage in the rear that is a finished multi-purpose space for use as anything from an office, shop, day kennel, sewing or gear room, to second formal bedroom.
Best luck
