Anyone have a suggestion for an antenna(s) for a SSB CB radio for my class A? I just ordered the radio and I now need the antenna or antennas.

Cheers

Hi BIG RED,

Any "Base Load" antenna will work just fine... whether its a magnetic mount or hard mount....

But do yourself a favor and don't let anyone talk you into a "Center Load" antenna..

They don't last as long as a base load model does..

If you keep an eye out for the center load types of antennas on vehicles, you will see about half of them are missing the upper section due to vibration, loose set screw and wind turbulence.

Another thing, some people are convinced that the more you pay for an antenna the better it is... HOG WASH !!

The $9.99 Radio Shack models are just as good as the big fancy brand names that cost ten times more...

The ones I reccomend are the "MID-Range" priced base load models sold at Radio Shack.. ($25 to $40)

The antenna is 10% of the CB setup, the Radio itself is 10%.. but 80% of how the radio performs is where the antenna is mounted and how well it is tuned in to the radio.

Commonly called Reflecting wave and Standing wave.

I started in CB radio back in the early 1960s and have had it all... you name it, I had it and used it.. So this information I'm passing on to you is from personal experience, not from some book..

I wish you the best BIG RED and if you have a problem or other questions, feel free to drop me an email or PM.

15" tuneable antenna.
