Hi all!!

My 2006 Expedition was totaled on Monday and I was suppose to pick up my 2013 Jayco Whitehawk on Thursday (today)... :(

So my question: What is a good rig that can sit 7/8 people, haul 12kish, 4x4?

I'm leaning towards an Expedition but I'm not made of money so I'm looking back at '00 or '01. I'm not sure how well they hold up at higher milage.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated!!

To seat that many people and pull that much weight I would probably look for a 3/4 ton van of any make.

A vehicle to fit your qualifications may well be a 1T van with a diesel engine. There is an inherent problem towing with a van, rear overhang from the axle. The Ford van was infamous for towing instability because of the distance from the hitch to the rear axle, many were involved in roll-overs.

Thanks guys!! I live in smallish town in Northern AZ so I think I'm going to skip the # of passengers. We'll get another car for all the kids!

Seems hard to find a 3/4 or 1 ton van anywhere around here... :(

My daily driver is my 1999 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer. Just turned 176,000 and still going very strong. Original engine, transmission, and other drive train. Usual maintenance, brakes and shocks, front suspension replaced mostly myself. The older V8s like mine have a nasty habit of throwing spark plugs, because they are only held by 3 or 4 threads in the aluminum head. Known engine defect, and I have replaced about 4 or 5 myself with a steel threaded insert, kit easily available.

When I drive this one into the ground (looking to get 200-225K) then I will be looking for another 5-6 year old Expedition....
