New awning

I news to replace the awning on my 1998 Holiday Rambler Endeavor. Any suggestion on a good brand? Any feelings about Carefree Awnings?

I had a carefree awning and it was nice. it was made out of a cloth material. my awnings are carefree now too, but i havent pulled them out yet since it is winter.

Instead of new awnings what about replacement fabrics. Depending on the size you can get 1 for under $200. Just Google "Awning replacement fabric" and go to the ebay site or there are many others. That is what I am doing. Saving a few hundred bucks.

What brand of awnings are on there now? Carefree or dometic. Both have great products, but I'd put on the same brand thats removed. Or as the previous post said. Replace the material. There pretty easy to replace. As long as you get the cotter pins in you won't have an issue. And another set of hands.

I have had both dometic and carefree. Currently have a carefree, but both work very well. I think you should just find the one that looks like it suits your needs at the best price and if it is one of these two brands I don't think you can go wrong. I'd not suggest an electric awning unless you have tried them before and know what you are getting. Many, to include myself, do not like them. Unless they substantially improve them I'll stick with manuals.

the electric awning came with are 5th wheel do not
like it. stay with manual if you are replacing the whole
awning.

I am very happy with my electric awning. Still the origonal and it is a 98 coach.

I think it largely depends on how one likes to use them. I personally leave mine extended out the entire time I camp. I have not yet camped in winds that bothered it at all, but friends with electric constantly are retracting theirs due to much more wind flap. That would bother me as i keep things under the awning I'd rather not get soaked in rain.

I also don't like the fact that most do not tilt easy for rain drop off, and later for the auto rain dump.

Lastly, they don't provide as much shade as a manual as they sit so much higher up.

Now some people don't mind any of this and enjoy the convenience of the button.

Jim,

I changed my Dometic manual awning (the previous owner removed the original Carefree electric one). I re-installed the original and it was a lot of work to cover all the holes left behind. So I would recommend changing the fabric or the complete awning for the same brand you have.

Furthermore, if you order an awning fabric through the net, make sure to ask for a swatch of the fabric to validate the proper color. Do not rely on the color you see on your computer screen.

The awning had a meeting with a tree branch. Was forced off the street. Took off the passenger mirror, some body damage and the awning assembly is basically history. Just got it to the shop today. Waiting to hear back next week.

Have developed small 6" tears along the bead connecting awning to drip rails of our coach. One on the bedroom slide cover and the other on the main slideout cover. Does any one know if I can reverse the fabric and put the tear end on the roller? Are the beads the same size? Do most to the maintanance on our rig myself.

I did exactly that on my A&E slide cover. There was about a foot of extra fabric on the roller. You should be able to look at the grooves where the beads slide in to determine if they are the same on your Carefree awning.
