New Dometic heat pump in the fritz!
I purchased 2 new Dometic heat pumps(Penguin 15,000 btu) for my 5er RV last year and with no manuals. The rear one works fine, but the front one cycles just like the rear one, but never reaches temperature to shut off, and just keeps running. Though it is under warranty, I might as well use it for TP. I am a full timer, my 5er is 56’. Dumetic requires I take it to an authorized service center. Of the 2 service centers; one has been out of business for over 2.5 years and the other is too far away. So, it’s too difficult to get this beast to Nashville, then reset it, and my wife does not want to stay in their parking lot for up to two weeks. I suggested removing it and taking it to the service center, but I never received a response that I know of. I must get this fixed ASAP because I have a special needs daughter that has asthma and other ailments that heat creates problems very quickly. I’m an electrician so I know my way around a/c electrical and mechanical, but not charging or testing the a/c’s freon. Any suggestions of the possible failure(s) would be appreciated. Thank you.

New Dometic heat pump in the fritz!
Not s solution but have you considered swapping front to back to see if it’s actually the unit? If they are identical that should be about a 45 minute job for 2 people. That might prove to be the thermostat rather than the unit itself? Just a thought.

I would be all over Dometic, like white on rice. They've had nothing but A/C failures over the last 4-5 years. When I bought my coach new, the identical coach next to ours had both Dometic units go bad. They had a rash of bad circuit boards for about a year. It seemed to quiet down, but in the last month or so, the failure rate is up again. There have been several postings about Dometic failures. One guy has had three in a row fail.

I have had two fail in the first year. Both lost refrigerant. Dometic required the service facility to confirm refrigerant leak by checking compressor amp draw. Without freon the amp draw is considerably less than a normal unit.

With no authorized service shops in the area usually the manufacture will approve you taking the unit to another shop.
Also its just an AC unit. Any quality AC guy should be able to check it out.For little $$ an independent guy will be able to tell you if it is an easy fix and not worth the headache of a warranty claim.

I think I will try switching the thermostats. See what that does this weekend.
