New FMCA App / privacy

I took it vantage of downloading the new FMCA app the other day. It strikes me funny that you have to link your existing FM CA account to the app to make it work. It would appear to me that this is a third-party provider and in the initial rollout of enrollment, it certainly collects a lot of data. I realize that buying and selling Dara is where the money is on the Internet these days, but gave me the impression that this is more about data collection with superficial services that it is in the depths of content for the user. Any experts have thoughts on this?

No different than basically every other app out there. The reason they are "free"
is to collect data and sell it.

The reason your FMCA data is needed is because this is for FMCA members only

If a product claims to be"free", then YOU are the product...

If that was truly the case the only thing they would need is the FMCA member number. By the OP's comment I am guessing they are asking for more than that.

From the email they sent out this is replacing the other app they had that you could use for membership card etc.

They worked with “Togo “ to setup the new one.

The old one is going away and the new one replaces it. Looks like it does add a bunch of features for maintenance tracking etc (at least from the email FMCA sent out).

I haven’t downloaded yet though.

I dislike ToGo so much that I don’t plan on even downloading the app. In my opinion FMCA is selling out their membership, and I intend on telling them this next week at the big rally.

FMCA membership is not free. I downloaded the new app, saw what it wanted and uninstalled it.

Never has been, but just the emergency medical evacuation service is worth the membership cost.

I downloaded the app from a link in their email. Had to set up a new username and password. No questions asked about FMCA numbers. I stopped at the maintenance schedule section. Wondering what the advantages are?

Mr D
Isn't this the benefit that might be going away after the meeting of the board at Minot? attached is a letter from Jon Walker to the board.

Interesting. I’d be willing to pay an additional premium to keep that coverage as part of program. Removal of this program would be a serious reason for many folks to defect. Result in a serious loss of numbers.

Like several of you mentioned, I too downloaded and promptly deleted the new FMCA app for the same reasons given.

Off topic – the emergency medical evacuation service member benefit is well worth the annual cost of FMCA membership. I too would consider continuing my membership if the increase to continue the benefit is held to a couple of dollars.

Reading the letter attached it looks like it would be an additional $12 per year to keep it.

Didn’t like the reason stated “overhead” but I’d pay an additional $12 a year for the peace of mind it provides just in case.
