New here, need older Holiday Rambler info
Have been looking at several motorhomes in the 10K range. I keep running across old Bounders and other Fleetwood products. I recently found a 1998 Holiday Rambler Vacationer 34' on a GM chassis 454 etc. The price seems good I can buy it under budget. I keep reading how good HR is? are they really that much Better than a FW? The HR I'm looking at has been sitting 2 years, but had new tires 3 years ago and has 49k for miles. anything special I should look at besides leaks etc? The main thing that has me excited about it is the fact that it has the fuel injected 454. A lot of the older stuff in my price range is old carbureted stuff with no overdrive. Any help greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Look for leaks house and chassis and rust.

There are plenty of older Holiday Ramblers still in the road. Browse through the Monaco and Vintage forums. Being handy with a wrench and understanding how the motorhome is assembled will save lots of money.

You can expect it has sat a lot in 19 years with only 50,000 miles. About 2600 miles a year, or one 3 week trip a year. In the auto business it is known as "lot rot" when a vehicle sits so long. Things that get lubricated from use go dry, fuel goes stale, fluids absorb moisture but are not changed because 'only 200 miles since it was changed'.
Maybe fine with this coach but something to think about. At that age I would be more comfortable with 200,000 on the clock.

For 10K you should be able to find one in the mid 1990's.

1988 Holiday Rambler Alumalite Class A here. Yeah, you're going to put more money into it than you anticipate, but these old HR's are tough old gals. Ours just survived a 4" hailstorm 5/17/2016. Other RV's in the Park that night did not. We have the 454 with the Quadrajet carb. No big deal.
The only inherent flaw was the "auto-park" feature. I believe it started in 1989 or 1990. I don't think it lasted that long. But you might want to do some research into that.

It's a 1998 model year. Any thing I buy I plan on going through the brakes , belts and hoses , fluids etc. I always do that on anything I buy so I know the condition. I have been reading up on the Autopark and it seems like a real nightmare. How often do these things actually have failures?Thanks
