New scam out there!

Some of you may be aware of this, but it's new to me. I am getting e-mails, supposedly from FedX, Wal-Mart, etc., saying that I have an order ready to be picked up or delivered. There is a link to click on for more info.

Since I know I don't have anything coming in, I'm pretty sure this is a new type of scam, probably to put malware on my computer when I click on the link. I simply delete it without clicking on the link.

Have any of you see this?

I get these from time to time. I first click on the sender name to check to verify who sent the email to me. Usually it's from some offshore address or a name I never heard of. The next event is a delete button being pressed.

I get them, but they go to my spam folder. I don't get them in my regular email. Since I know I didn't order anything, I don't open them either.

Maybe it would be worth taking down the details that are visible in the notification and then directly contacting the company from whom the e-mail has supposedly been sent. They're being scammed too.

Luckily, I haven't seen anything like that (yet). Sometimes having a clunky old computer running Win XP and a IE8 can be advantageous!

These types of scam emails have been around for some time. I use a great - and free - program called "Spamihilator" to catch them, along with many others:

Spamihilator - Free Anti-Spam-Filter

I have seen quite a few of these and they are scams. I have received from Bank of America, PayPal to name a few. Never click on the suggested link or trouble will brew! I always check my accounts by logging onto the their websites. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.... Oppps, bet that quotation ages me.

We are getting "Delivery notification" phone calls on our landline also, in addition to scam calls from someone with a Mideast accent telling us that he will help us get rid of popups and problems on our computers' Iolo System Mechanics Pro software. The calls are now blocked by the phone company--after they verified these were scams.

There was an alert about this a couple of weeks ago (Maybe from PC Magazine?). I have received 4 or 5.
I use a program called MailWasher to pre-screen and delete scams and unwanted emails. I can see the headers and address info in Mailwasher. This batch of scams is very obvious - they don't even bother to try to spoof their email addresses.

The one I got this morning that was supposedly from Walmart had a return address of:
Walmart (skang@ucmkcpa.com) which is a GoDaddy registered site.

This is from Mail washer:
Domain Name: UCMKCPA.COM
Registry Domain ID: 1577858114_DOMAIN_COM-VRSN
Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.godaddy.com
Registrar URL: http://www.godaddy.com
Update Date: 2014-12-04T20:41:35Z
Creation Date: 2009-12-03T20:11:14Z
Registrar Registration Expiration Date: 2016-12-03T20:11:14Z
Registrar: GoDaddy.com, LLC
Registrar IANA ID: 146
Registrar Abuse Contact Email: abuse@godaddy.com
Registrar Abuse Contact Phone: +1.480-624-2505

I reported the scam address to GoDaddy.
