New to RV world

Hello, my hubby and I have been retired for over a year and now getting the "bug" to RV and see what the rest of the USA is all about. My parents and grandparents owned RV's and always enjoyed them and the freedom they offer traveling. We are based for now in CA, and also a second home in Clark Co, NV. We would be storing the RV in NV. We are looking at class C's around the 30' length (used with low mileage), with 1 slide out. We have looked at several I like the open floor plans available and really like the Fleetwood models with the bed in the back. We also have a 70 lb lab that goes everywhere with us. Debating whether going through a dealer or private party. Also trying to research the tax cost on buying through a dealer or private here in CA or NV. We would register in NV. Does anyone have any input or advice?

If you can find a nice used coach for a good price that is a good way to go. Almost all coaches have the bed in the back so you have lot's of options there. Class A's seem bigger with more storage but class C's may be a better choice if you are happy with that style. Look at RV Trader for some ideas of cost and models.

We have 2 Labs. We started out with an older 26' Class C but didn't like the layout. We sold it, saved up for a while and bought an '02 32' Class A four years ago. What a difference - spacious layout, plenty of head clearance, room for the dogs and a fuel-injected V-10 engine (no more carburetor issues!).

Last season we never used it, except as supplementary sleeping accommodation for people staying with us. We sold it in late December.

Howdy and welcome to IRV2.

Since you say you want to see the country I would go with a Class A motorhome. The big window in front is a lot easier to see out of. We traveled with a Golden Retriever and an English Black Lab until they crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and now we travel with a small psycho that we found living in a culvert.

Good luck,
Jon

I should have added, we wish we had known to purchase from an individual. Camping World changed their tune after we signed the dotted line. Live and learn. Now, I know to go to the various forums before we purchase anything. Great reviews from veteran RVers can't be beat!
Thankfully, we did get a good deal!! We wish we could call CW (Macon/Byron) and get great customer service NOW, but that isn't the case.

Go across the interstate and check out Mid State RV in Byron for service.

Welcome! Good Luck with your search. Don't be afraid to search further away than your general area. We got out Tioga from a dealer about two hours away. Lots out there and when you find the right one you will know...
