New white fresh water line makes stinky water!

Prior to moving to Oregon, we had a 5/8" hose and a 1/2" hose when we left Texas, both were white RV/Marine hoses. The "rubber hose" smell went away soon, since it was so danged HOT down there, I guess it leeches out quickly (?)

I left the 1/2" hose with my uncle in TX, since he recently acquired a new RV. I brought the 5/8" hose with us, but since the weather is cooler up here, the big hose was hard to wind up and put in our storage container (it kinked, rather than wound up) so I chunked it and bought a 1/2" white RV/Marine hose, but now it makes our water stink like "rubber hose".

With weather in the low-to-mid 80s, how long will it take the rubber smell to leech out of this new hose?

Is there anything I can do to the hose to make the smell dissipate quicker?

Not sure of the brand, but it is a Walmart item.

Soak the interior with vinegar? That usually removes bad taste.

Same water system. Tasted fine on our last hose, stinky on this one. If we run if for a minute or so, it tastes fine, but who wants to run the water for 60-90 seconds before they take a drink at 3am?

We are having a couple of hot days, in the 90s, so hopefully, the smell will leech out.

Should I put the hose out in the sun, so it gets really hot? Would that speed up the process?

Right now, I have most of it under the trailer in the shade.

It might be...I left it in Texas with my uncle and nephew in charge of it. It might be nasty after 2 months of me not taking care of it.

Sorry, our comments crossed paths.

If this does not clear out in the next couple days, I will try this.

Vinegar is an acid so it may make the hose deteriorate faster. I am not sure I would do that. Probably just going to take some time before you no longer have to flush it.

Vinegar is simple and cheap, but I use bottled water where quality is a concern.

If we use the water a lot, it loses the taste until we let it sit. So while cooking, we can usually use the water from the tap.

Otherwise, we are using bottled water.

It is mainly that first drink/toothbrushing in the morning, or the midnight sip from the faucet that tastes the worst.

I will give it a week of 80s and 90s and see if it is still an issue.

It is still an issue, and I remembered that I bought the hose at Home Depot, not Walmart.

So, next time I hit the store, chunking this hose and getting a new one, probably from Camping World, so I know it is one that won't stink.

And the temps are up around 100 here in Salem, OR, so the heat isn't quickening up the bleeding out process.

Well, I bit the bullet, and donated the white hose to the RV park for gardening use. Went to walmart and bought one of their blue hoses.

Water is fine now.

For anyone in the market for a water hose, please, for your own sanity, steer clear of the ones at Home Depot.
