Newbie question on food storage
If your rig is in storage and will be for months do you remove sugar ,flour etc that are well packaged any other foods you can safely leave? We will be traveling every few months for about 2 weeks until we retire next year. Heat is an issue in FL so am used to that.

When I store my coach for the season , I remove everything including all food, dishes, pots and pans and utensils. Everything gets a thorough cleaning (Refrigerator, cabinets drawers, etc.). Of course its in storage for 6 months but never had an issue with rodents. Comes out of storage just like it went in. As a side note, this will be our last year for storage! DW retires next year and we will turn into snowbirds. Yea!

Newbie question on food storage
I leave canned items, oil, salt, pepper, seasonings. In the near future I plan to find containers to keep staples such as flower and sugar.
Anyone have suggestions on the type of containers that would work best?

Our rig will likely be in storage for the next 6 months so I remove anything and everything that even MIGHT smell like food including the fry pans, toaster, and coffee maker. Fridge and microwave get cleaned thoroughly as well. Canned goods are unlikely to survive our deep freezing temperatures so they get removed and used up during the winter.

we put sugar, flour and other similar stuff in Tupperware type containers. leave the spices in the original containers. canned food comes out
kind of like the OP we try and go about every other month or so.

We were summer "longtimers" and our well-supplied coach spent its winters outside our Florida home. We left that sort of stuff in it year around, but always had it in some sort of container rather than store packaging (unless it came in a jar or can). That was for enhanced protection against rodents, insects and moisture. We would either decant it into a jar or plastic container or simply drop the entire store package into another container. There are sizes of containers available to meet every need!

Remove ALL Food !!!! Even when camping, we use tuperware containers for everything food related... Canned soups and such I don't see a problem with....

Our 5th wheel is fully stock except for perishables.
All items are either in cans, jars or sealed containers (flour, sugar, etc)

I think if you looked at who replied and how they camped, (a lot of trailers), makes for outfitting differently. My daughters both own trailers and only get them out every other month or so. In their case, they pack the food they will eat on that trip only and that's it.
For us, we're out at least once every month and often for 3-5 weeks at a time. We pack the basics of our meals, like meat, fresh vegetables and bread. Other items, like canned goods and even refrigerator items, like condiments, are left in the coach. Our coach is always plugged in, so the residential refer is always on.
We live in earthquake country. Our coach is parked at our house and is always full of fuel, water and food stuffs, incase we need it in an emergency. We often use it for food storage before a party. I can see that in some spots of the country that people may have issues with rodents, more than others, and some extra precautions are needed.

Thanks all f or the input. I have heavy plastic containers for flour, sugar, rice etc so will leave them and canned goods in tubs in case one go crazy. We store ours in a storage yard about 5 min from house no power there to leave fridge on. But I think we are ok then. All perishables out along with mice attracting stuff.
