Newbies from Okotoks Alberta
We are very new to this lifestyle and may have chosen an extreme trip as our
first time out by travelling to the Yukon and Alaska with the return portion
through northern British Coumbia later this summer. I am appealing to those RV'ers who have made this trip. We are driving a new 35' Winnebago Vista w/a Ford V10. We are also equipped to tow an 06 Chev HHR. Along with helpful advice could someone comment on the need to have a toad on a trip to that part of the country.

I've never made that trip, it's on the bucket list. But wouldn't you want the HHR for side trips instead of driving the motorhome everywhere?

Welcome to the forum.
Made this trip last summer as part of a caravan. Enjoyed every mile but the roads took their toll on our old bus. Still glad we did it.
Couple of tips,
1/ don't get in a hurry. Going north from Dawson, 60-70 KM/hr. Watch for frost heaves and slow down. Look for the black skid marks on the pavement that are caused by the semi trailer tires. Most frost heaves are marked but some are not so keep an eye for the skid marks.
2/ Unless you don't care about your HHR, broken headlights and smashed windshields were numerous in our group so front end cover (including the windshield) would be a good investment. I used a Blueox Kargard shield and custom windshield cover on our CRV and faired pretty well. Removed the full width mudflat in Whitehorse as it was causing stones all over the toad. Best thing is to make sure you have a good set of flaps behind the rear duals (set about 3-4" off the ground at travel height) The big full flap is more trouble than it's worth.
3/ watch for on coming truck traffic on the construction zones. These trucks don't slow for anything and you can count on a broken windshield from them. I would stop and wait for them to get through if I saw them ahead or pull over to a crawl if if met them in the middle of construction.
4/ carry a set of spare belts and fluids and basic tools.
These are a few, take your time, enjoy the scenery. My signature pic is from Canada Day at Kulane Lake, YK. Likely one of the most beautiful spots on the planet. Make sure you stop at Stewart/Hyder on the way back. The Cassiar Hwy is a little rough at the top but definetly worth the price of admission.
Fishing rod and camera is Definetly required.

Forgot to mention, you will most definetly want your toad. Running around for groceries, sightseeing etc etc etc. no question.

Welcome, I towed an HHR for 6 years and ~25,000ish miles, never had an issue. Great Toad....

I can guarantee you if you tow it to AK without protection, you WILL have an issue. Again, remove the big rear flap and if you have a side exhaust, use a Protect-A-Tow screen and you will be fine.
