Yep, last year. Took the short Ferry up, approx 5 hours and the long Ferry back, approx 18 hours. No problem as they also load Semis. Don't k now the cost because we did it with a RV Tour so cost was included in overall trip cost.

Howdy!

We went a few years ago and had a wonderful time. We took the short ferry both ways. Spent 3 1/2 months there, we wanted to get our monies worth out of the ferry ride. We liked it as much as our trip to Alaska.

I took it both ways . Long ferry to St.Johns , 14 hours overnight and six hours back from Port a basque . It was in 03 and cost $700 round trip. Spent 3 1/2 weeks driving across the " rock " approx 400 miles. Much more as we went up and down each peninsular and up to St. Anthony. Met some of the nicest people and still visit some in Florida when they come.

Yep - spent about a month there last summer. Plenty of discussion on this destination in the forums! ST

FWIW - as in I have not done it for this one - most of the time when I figure the miles saved by a ferry ride and the fuel cost to do those miles it's a wash or close too it. Then there is all that time sleeping or sightseeing that I would be behind the wheel... ;-)

Driving around instead of taking the ferry is another 5 full days of driving and 5 nights in a CG. Most MH's cost at least $1 per mile to operate. Made the ferry cheaper for our caravan because we got a group-rate, and gave us another 5 days in NL.

Cooncreakers, you'll find all current ferry information here: Marine Atlantic | Home

Our trip plan with take us to Newfoundland on the Ferry 6/11/2016. From the rates on the Ferry web we expect to pay approx. $360 one way for a Jeep and 40ft MH. We are currently on PEI and heading to the Cabot Trail then on to NL. We are looking to spent 40 days on the island as well as brief visits to Labrador and the two French Islands south of NL.

Safe Travels and THE JOY IS IN THE RIDE

Oh, it's definitely a "wash" to do the miles to get to Newfoundland. #itsanisland

But seriously, I've heard that most of the ferry fee is calculated by the exact length of your entire rig, so before you reach the ferry, take off anything hanging on the hitch (bikes, bike rack, kayak, etc) even the hitch itself and put it inside!! If you're pulling a toad, check to see if getting on separately is worth disconnecting!

They actually measure your total length with a wheel stick, because so many RV'ers lied about total length in the past when making reservation.
I calculated disconnecting, but there is no place to reconnect within several miles, and the savings was minimal, plus the problem of finding each other- as MH's are on a different deck and unload from a different ramp.
Mirrors on the RV must be folded in or moved very close to the RV to prevent breakage.
