No, nitrogen is 78% air anyway.

You mean Air is 78% nitrogen, this is true, but that said,
I was told that with N in my tires, they would not fluctuate in PSI as much as air, especially in sub zero temps. This I have found to be baloney.

The main advantage to bottled nitrogen for most people is it is dryer. Getting air from a compressor with a filter and dryer in the line will pretty much accomplish the same thing. The next time someone tries to sell you on nitrogen for your tires, ask them how they purge the existing air from your tires. Also, ask how you are supposed to top up your tires when the pressure is low and you are in BF, Idaho.

nitrogen

I am being told that when the tire heats up air pressure will increase but that does not happen with nitrogen, temp does not change the pressure .

Nitrogen for tires is akin to bottled water. Great marketing has us paying for what was free.

Tire pressure will not increase as much with nitrogen when the tire gets hot, thats all anybody uses in racing.

My tires and I both use 78% nitrogen, the tires get a dryer on the line... Neither of us race or are aircraft....

I also refill my bottled water with a Brita on the line...

YMMV

As others have stated, AIR is 79% Nitrogen, 20% Oxygen. Air (and the O2 and N2 in it) obey the perfect gas law BOYLES’ LAW
§ An ideal gas law
§ Gives a relationship between pressure and volumes of gases
§ Law stating that the product of the volume and pressure of a gas compressed at a constant temperature remains constant
§ PV = constant [given mass & temperature]
§ ie: when the temperature is constant, the pressure of the gas varies inversely with its volume:— if the volume of a gas is reduced, the gas molecules will be compressed and the pressure will rise

SEE http://www.anzcp.org/CCP/Physics&Chem/Gas%20Laws.htm

Racing (such as NASCAR) uses Nitrogen because it it's a lot easier to have a bottle of dry Nitrogen in the pits than a air compressor w/filter dryer - and where would you plug it in?

jettyjock, if you're going to run your RV at 200 MPH for a few hours, or fly it 30,000 feet and then land hard with max braking, or smoke the tires on take off, fill the tires with nitrogen. If not, keep your bucks in your wallet because you wouldn't notice the difference anyway.
