Nitrogen or Air????
Should I be using nitrogen or air in my tires? I am about to replace all the tires on my motorhome and the dealer gave me a price using nitrogen. If I need to add nitrogen, is not easily available in all places. I do carry a air compressor, so making insured that the tires are inflated properly is not a problem. Any thoughts....Thanks

It's simply not worth the money or added dificulty.

Google around for more reading than you can imagine on this topic, but the basic answer is that unless you have a jumbo jet or a space shuttle or drive for NASCAR, there is no meaningful advantage to using nitrogen in your tires. But if you really want to use it I will happily come by and fill your tires with 78% nitrogen for only $20/tire.

compressed contains 70% nitrogen.

Nitrogen has benefits in tires used for air craft or race cars. For a vehicle at normal speeds, it serves no practical purpose. It is a profit center for the tire seller.
If it makes you feel better, spend the money on it. It won’t hurt, but remember that it is not as easy to find 100% Nitrogen for bring tires up to pressure.
Normal air contains 78% Nitrogen, so is it worth it for an extra 22%? I think not.
The next time I tow my trailer at 200 MPH or it has the name “Boeing” on it, I will use nitrogen.

Several threads here regarding this available via the search feature. General consensus is no substantial benefit to nitrogen over air.
I actually often use CO2 to add to tire pressures on the coach as I carry a CO2 tank in the jeep for airing up tires after off-roading.

Use air...the thing with nitrogen is a sham. On aircraft or race cars it has value on a MH.....no value

I understand the main advantage of nitrogen is that in the main, the tire pressure will be largely unaffected by temperature or elevation. IMO, not much advantage for tires, especially considering the supply difficulty. BIG advantage for your float tube or pontoon boat is you are into fishing, and prefer to leave your inflatables inflated. Inflating your float tube at sea level, throwing into the back of the RV, then going up to 2000 feet is a great way of exploding your tube! But for tires, bit of a gimmick, seems to me....

You are probably better off adding an air drier to your compressor. Filling your tires with dry air is much cheaper than nitrogen and removes issues that water vapor can cause. This is especially true in high humidity areas

I have had dealers or Ford put nitrogen in some new vehicles in the last few years. It is more stable, and does not fluctuate as much as air. And when I do need to add a little, I just use air. I don't buy into the nitrogen thing and would never pay for it. But it does work. You can mix them. No problem.
