Some Additional Thoughts on Why Alaska Is Needed
Alaska holds a unique place in the American imagination and mythos.
From it's purchase in 1867 to the Gold Rush, to the construction of the Alcan Highway during WWII to help defend America and build airstrips to ferry Lend Lease Aircraft to Russia, to the Alaska Oil Pipeline and it's construction, Alaska's history, geography and natural attractions have held sway over the American imagination for decades.
The drive to Alaska has always been the ultimate Road Trip of the American Road Trips.
There is a direct historical line from Secretary Seward to Jack London and Robert Service, the gold seekers and Oil Boom workers to today's travelers that seek out this very special place.
I hope IRV2 will acknowledge that and give it it's own special place here.

I don't share CLIFFTSLL opinion. If he's concerned about too many sections why do we have a MH-General Discussions & Problems in the Motor Home section when all the types of Motor Homes already have their own section. This seems redundant. 7 sections under Travel Trailers & 5th Wheels?? 9 sections under RV Life Style Forums?

As I understood(read his post) BTRT, he wants to start a travelog of his experiences, not future plans or tips.

If it might help tip the balance in favor of an Alaska forum, I and I think at least one other IRV2 member live in Alaska and am more than willing to answer questions and pass on my knowledge and experiences on driving the Alaska Highway.

I just want to be sure I am clear ...I find the lack of an Alaska forum a glaring error in an otherwise very good site.
My interest is to not only record my latest trip but for all of those considering the trip or making the trip to Alaska to have a place to go to get information, ask questions and write about their experiences too.
And a big thanks to the members living in Alaska to add their voices to a new forum.

I plan on RVing through Canada and into and around Alaska in the near future. I'd have great interest in gathering information on this forum rather than brand X.

That link would be an excellent sticky to a new section for the board.

Perhaps it is possible to become a co-owner of this free website we all enjoy so much.

Last summer was my 2nd year of RV ownership and my first trip to Alaska. I fully intend to return and would also like to see an Alaska forum here so I have a one stop shop site.

I'd like to think that RV trips to Alaska and Mexico are sufficiently complex enough to justify at least one combined forum here so those of us who have experience traveling to and from those areas can provide input to those who haven't but want to go there.
Isn't that kind of what this and similar sites are for?

On another unnamed forum there's a lot of chatter on the Alaska/Canada area.

Totally agree. The reason I still use that other forum.

Here is probably the best but as yet unsaid reason for adding an Alaska/Mexico forum to this site:
This site is heavy on advertising, that means they are monetizing our eyeballs...
The more traffic, the views, the more clicks all add up to revenue.
My bet is an Alaska forum would generate more interest and clicks and possibly more revenue...It opens up several new avenues for new advertisers...the Alaska forum could be sponsored by the MILEPOST.

The longest thread on irv2. com is "Are you an RV mutant too?" Now that is not a specfic-topic thread , but it is ongoing and presently at 5,783 pages of replies.
Now I ask everyone who has posted a reply, if an AK thread was created, and the travelogs and miscellaneous comments, information, warnings, must-sees, etc were to only total 1/4 that amount of pages = 1,445, how many would actually read 1,445 pages of information when anticipating driving to AK?
My point is the thread might quickly become so long and unwieldy it would become useless. I think a specific year-dated thread under general discussion would be far more practical. Such threads would be there by year of original post, and no longer useful information would be replaced by last years experiences and information.
