no pics on CG websites

sitting here in michigan planning a few more stops on our feb. trip. mostly in fla. after looking at a kazillion sites it just amazes me how many campground web site do not have any pics of their sites. they will have pics of the pool or clubhouse but where do you spend most of your time? i guess my point is, if their afraid to show you pics of the actual sites i would be afraid to book a site. jim

Good point! It's either that, or they did their web-site themselves and do not understand their markets!

I noticed some of the state parks are providing pictures of their sites. Vermont, S. Dakoda. In Ohio many of the state parks have volunteer groups called " Friends of ". The one near me Friends of Punderson took pictures of each site. A lot of time I'll check out other state parks or private campgrounds near by for future visits. I will take pictures of sites and mark down the ones we like. Once home I'll keep a database of different campgrounds site pictures. It has come in very handy.

Getting back to the first post in this thread, I would agree, some campgrounds are not proud of their actual campsites, so why show them. It would be so easy for them to take an afternoon to snap pictures of each site and post it on their website. You want to reserve a site where you know you can get your rig into and have room for your awning to be used. Also you want a site somewhat level. We have reserved at places we have not been to, and found the site to be very poor.

A few weeks back I used the picures I took for making reservations to 3 different places for this summer. It came in very handy....

I'm a big fan of campground site photos & am frustrated websites show pools, playgrounds, holiday parades, happy campers, happy campers & more happy campers...etc. After a stay at a campgound where the website shows few site photos, I do contact the campground via their email & suggest they add those types of photos to their website album. Plus, I go around & take pictures myself & put at least a few site photos in my campground reviews here. But I'm limited to just 6 photos in the Campgrounds section, so I try to post a lot in my little slice of the Photos section.

Regarding what Jim said above about campgrounds taking photos of their sites to post on their websites, Lake Leelanau RV Park in MI does it right with a clickable site map that brings up site photos. THAT's what we want to see.

Now, I have also run across a website starting to show site photos. ReserveAmerica.com. It's hit & miss, but, sometimes, when you choose to view via the Campground Map option & you hover your cursor over a campsite number, a pop-up box will show with the site details & it'll include a photo of the site.

It's so much nicer to know what you're getting into prior to reserving instead of being surprised upon arrival.

Jim, good post and how true it is. Dirk could not have said it better, case in point, we were making reservations @ Daytona KOA last summer, and wanted a certain site in their brochure. After inquiring we found out the photo was actually @ another campground not related to KOA, surprise surprise. Anyway we got a real nice site, and the trip was wonderful. I just wish everyone would show you what you get upfront, like they do their deposits. Happy trails to you and yours, and travel safe.
