Has anyone stayed at any of the forest service campgrounds in the forest lately? Chances for a hookup space at Salt Springs w/o reservations? Which non hookup cg would be best for 34' MH with toad? Thanks

We stayed at Salt Springs for about a week in late Nov., 2007. When we made those reservations in early November, the online reservation service was showing pretty much full after the week we were there through the whole winter. You can only book 2 weeks (I think) online, but you can call the office and try to make reservations to stay up to 3 months in the winter. They do have a few non-reservable sites, but that would be hit or miss.

Don't have any info on the non-hookup campgrounds.

Here is a List of Ocala National Forest Campgrounds. Very few besides Salt Springs have any hook-ups, but most are full in the winter months anyway. You will just have to keep checking for cancellations, no shows and non-reserved sites.

The last time I was at the Salt Springs Recreation area, they only allow 50% of their sites to be reserved. The other 50% are reserved for "drive-ups.
Call them at 352-685-2048 to check on drive-up sites.
