Odors and Ozone Use - Be Aware!

I hear lots of people talk about using ozone to rid their rigs of odors. You should know what you are doing when you use this type of deodorizer.

Be educated before you take it on!

I don't recommend the inexperienced to mess with ozone!
I am in Restoration and use ozone. We are VERY careful with it's use and applications.

Too much ozone is not good, but a little can help with odors. Also, look where this paper is published....Commiefornia. They tend to go a bit overboard on most things.

I realize not the most "up to date info". If you want more current info, just google it. You will find the facts have not changed much.

The purpose I intended in starting this thread stemmed from reading other posts where people talked freely about using ozone and purchasing the equipment to use in their RV's. Health-wise, it is not good to use. If you do intend on using it, be wise and do not ever expose yourself to high levels of it. Ozone will deteriorate anything with latex in it such as fridge seals, gaskets etc.

The main thing is ozone is harmful to young children, pets, plants, and older individuals. The latter encompasses many of the folks who enjoy RVing.

Just be aware and educate yourself before using it so non-chalantly!

I am a full time Safety Manager and have bees so for 33+years. A couple of facts regarding ozone:

The OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit is 0.1 PPM
The Short Term Exposure Limit (15 min) is 0.3 PPM
Exposure at or above 9 PPM will probably result in Pneumonia.
It does an excellent job of rotting anything containing latex. Rubber seals, gloves, waistbands, tires, bras, etc.

As a retired environmental engineer, we have used Ozone machines in public buildings for years. Used preoperly they are perfectly safe !

As a former hotel owner, we used them to get rid of pet and cigarette odors - the hospitality industry pretty much acknowledges that if you use an ozone generator per instructions in an unoccupied room with time to air out afterwards, you can rent any room as a non-smoking room.

You can buy simple ones with clear instructions at Home Depot. Be very cautious of any use other than the very lowest levels while the room (or RV) is occupied.

Amazing, you try to help people and this is the attitude you get.

I don't remember holding a gun to anyone's head threatening them if they used ozone. Just trying to bring something to peoples attention and help.

I thought that was the intent of a forum. To help and give aid. I don't remember reading anywhere in the rules it saying rude comments are welcome or should be encouraged!

its not the info so much as the delivery.
